FPS games = mouse + keys
Generally mmorpg's = mouse + keys
Racing games = x-box pad
3rd person (tomb raider type games) = x-box pad
sports games = x-box pad

I never used a 360 pad on my comp. Only time i use my ps2 pad is when im playing Pro Evo or any racing games, thats about it. Does the job for me.

Was thinking of getting 360 Wireless Controller for my son to use with racing games, does it need any setting up or is it just plug & play?

Depends which games you are playing, but so many games are now designed around the 360 controller - it was the best purchase I ever made for my PC.

Plug and play, make sure it's plugged in before you load up the game though.

Plug and play with Vista/7. Quality product, though I only use mine for driving (GTA etc) and Tomb Raider esq games

You'll need the wireless adaptor for windows to use the xbox360 controllers with your computer. They can be had on eBay for relatively cheap.

Don't they come bundled anymore? I prefer the wired anyway - it's lighter and no faffing around charging it.

Deus Ex is better on the pad btw, pads suit Third Person shooters usually.
