Just gave my son a fat 360 120GB elite, every time I switch it on to sign in or start a game, it says not connected, despite a wired connection.

Once I go through the process of testing the connection it's ok.

Surely you don't have to do this every time you switch on the 360?

I am a total 360 newb:o in case you didn't know and any help would be grateful.

My 360s also does this. I'm set to auto connect yet whenever I turn my 360 on I have to go to the "connect to xbox live" box in the middle of the screen to sign in.

Yep mine does this too. I don't have to go through the diagnostics though, when it doesn't connect say no to going to the test bit, then just try to connect again and it usually will.

How is the wired connection setup? All auto or manual IP,gateway, subnet and DNS servers or a mixture.

I didn't notice any difference when I traded up to a 360S, but the config didn't get disturbed too much with the profile on USB.

The only issues I've ever had start when the Xbox is on live and it momentarily drops out. I think that was mostly down to my old router, but I won't know until it happens on this one.

Don't worry guys, the 360 newb fixed it himself!

Andybtsn, didn't work mate but thanks anyway, don't know if you have done this but it might be of interest to you:

Opened the following ports on my router and so far it's connected automatically every time:

88 UDP

3074 TCP&UDP

53 TCP&UDP
