Is this a common problem? My 360 has eaten my gears of war disk, it's got scratches all over the disk!

Do you think i can take it back to gamestation? It was only bought at christmas and came as part of the package.

It's happened before, i've seen a similar thread on here somewhere, The person unfortunately struggled to get a new game, Out of both MS and the developer.

They both shifted blame!

Or blamed the user.

My GOW disc is scratched to hell and the console is at fault. I phoned MS and was told that the 360 does not scratch discs, they told me i was at fault because i 'must' have moved the console when it was running. They even said i was lying...
There have been numerous threads around the net and even Mark Rein told GOW users that their house power supplies must be faulty ( :confused: )
So after refusing to take responsibility and calling people liars, denying any blame or fault whatsoever they go and start a disc replacemt program, what a bloody cheek...

I'm curious as to why they only offer support for games published by themselves? surely if they are offering replacement discs for Microsoft published games then they are admitting that there is a fault?

it's hardly the non-microsoft's publishers fault the console eats discs, nor is it the users.

The following game titles are currently available for this program:

* Crackdown™
* Fuzion Frenzy 2
* Gears Of War®
* Halo® 2
* Kameo™: Elements of Power™
* Ninety Nine Nights™
* Perfect Dark Zero™
* Project Gotham Racing® 3
* Viva Piñata™
* Xbox Live® Arcade Unplugged Vol. 1
Doesn't it scratch any other discs then?

Have MS fixed this issue with the consoles they are selling now?

I suspect it's because MS-published titles can be replaced by Microsoft acting as the supplier with no fault attached to the console - not to mention that as the publishers of the games they can pretty much do it for free - MS can't force other publishers to offer replacement discs and the only alternative would be to actually buy replacement games which would cost a lot of $$$!

Is it right that it costs £10 to get a replacement disc?

According to the replacement form, yes.

Pathetic TBH. Having to pay out again for a game you've already paid for when it's clearly the 360 at fault!

It's doubtful, MS were denying any fault whatsoever until this announcement. If they have fixed the problem, that means they knew about the discs being scratched so they were lying when they said 360's don't scratch discs... It might be worth finding out which make of DVD drive people have in their 360's and seeing if one is more guilty than the other. I have to say though, GOW is the only disc that i get read errors on. Others have also reported that they only get errors on GOW and thus the sratches. Basically they have manufactured dodgy GOW discs (maybe other games too), denied it, lied about there being any problems, blamed the end user and now done an about turn and admitted it. I was fed up with MS before but now i just don't trust them one jot.

I think the Gears of War disk must be particularly tasty because my 360 ate mine too. I was only a couple of hours in, too. :(

Mines never eaten any discs.

Stand it horizontally and reap the rewards.

Also I heard some people chatting on TDU the other day that it munches when you move it with a game playing. :p

Don't you mean vertical? :confused:

For the first time since I bought my 360 about 8 months ago, I have it stood vertically. Only game I've been playing is Oblivion and it makes some really nasty, horrible noises.

It got so bad once I turned the console off and took out the disc expecting it to be a right mess but there's no evidence of damage. At least for now but it's got me nervous and how I have it set-up at the moment there's no room to lie it back down :(

2 of mates had there GOW discs ruined within hours of owning it. One after trying to get it replaced with both Microsoft and the retailer just went and bought it again. Better not tell him about this program :D
