here is what was said by James.Miller
yeah they had awful laser problems. but this is really more of a case of if everybody else can manage it, why are ms having problems?

You replied

Most are user problems IMO, I see so many pics with the rear exhaust fans nearly against a wall or something or stuck in a cabinet, or surrounded with junk and things on top of them.

So your reply was to why are ms having problems with keeping their consoles running. true?

And your reply was saying, that the problem isnt with microsoft but with users. Correct?

Yes I believe MOST, read that most are from poor treatment, now most does not mean them ALL, I'm sure you can work that out.

If the console is prone to overheating then how could the effect be any more adverse by a user placing it against a wall? If it's going to overheat then it will do it anyway.

I'm surprised that people keep responding to Mr Men after his post earlier that suggested all 360 owners with multiple duds have been purposely breaking their consoles.

Just like you responded then?

Because placing it close to the wall or blocking the vents, or in a cabinet therefore will recycle the hot air the console is already struggling to get rid of back into the machine, its not hard to understand anyone with a PC will know the benefits of having cool air in, hot air out....

Maybe this shows my point entirely, console owners just don't understand that heat kills machines....

I'm not surprised at all about the Elite suffering from the same problems as the original as they're essentially the same motherboard factor with a couple of enhancements added. As is widely known it's all due to the solder joins and more specifically the usage of lead-free solder. The failure rate for the 360 is sickening - I've had two die on me and I hardly played the things!

Any clues to how far away the 65nm version is?

One of the most common consumer complaints about the next-gen console is that its graphics capability requires a central processing unit which needs to be cooled by a constantly running, less-than-stealthy ventilation system. In other words, its fan is loud.

Some disgruntled consumers have even compared the 360's fan to a Blackhawk helicopter. Those same consumers will welcome today's news that the Xbox 360 is getting a new CPU which runs at lower temperature. Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing has announced it will begin making the Xbox 360's CPU using a 65-nanometer (nm) Silicon-on-Insulator (SOI) semiconductor technology. Currently, the Singapore-based hardware manufacturer company makes 90nm Xbox 360 CPUs under an agreement with IBM, designer of the CPU. The first Xbox 360s with the new CPU will go on sale in 2007.

For laymen, the change means that the new 65mm Xbox 360 CPUs will have more chips per wafer--which means lower energy requirements, lower heat output, and cheaper chip production costs. That is music to Microsoft's ears. "We look forward to working with Chartered on the production of such an important component of our Xbox 360 system," said Larry Yang, General Manager of Xbox Console Development at Microsoft.

I just found that, It's from the 21st and sounds nice and promising :)

Yes I would say 3in is nearly, imagine a bullet went past your head 3in away, would you say oh thats plenty, not to worry..LOL

The point is, the closest it can get to a wall is three inches which is sufficient to allow the hot air to get out which is a nail in the coffin of your 'people mistreat their consoles and put them too close to walls' theory. Bullets and 360 rears have absolutely nothing in common and therefore your comparison is just null and void.

I think the moral of this story is not to enter a discussion with you! :D What the hell are you on about!

I think you reenforced the point i made that you originally questioned.
But i can't be sure.
Confusion is the best form of attack don't you know ;)

Agreed

And these 'most' failures are through mistreatment. Well why are 360 owners so careless as to break them when wii and ps3 owners are so carefull.

And why are multi format owners only being nasty to their 360?

Because the PS3 is so expensive we take extra special care of it :D

And the Blu-Rays attack any walls etc that get too close
