Just traded my 360 20Gb in for an Elite. My previous 360 was manufacturered in 2007 but was virtually inaudiable.

The new elite has noticeable fan noise.

Is this normal?

Great. Got an irritating whine whenever I play now :(

Amazing quality control there Microsoft :)

I know it sounds time consuming, but could you not return it as you just got it today and take pot luck with another?

You need to get a Jasper Arcade then buy the 120GB HD ;) it also comes with 512MB Flashram built into it which make the NXE a bit faster & you can use for game saves or arcade games with the approx 275MB spare after NXE installs. This is what I did in the summer as its the only guaranteed way to get a quiet one. Now I have a Jasper with Elite spec and its very quiet all the time.

Elites are still not all using the Jasper chipset so until that happens its the best method.

This implies that all Jaspers are quieter than other revisions which is not the case. It is pot luck. A day 1 360 can be quieter than one manufactured yesterday.

I think the Jasper's had 150watt power bricks (falcons were 175 and the old xenon's were 210 i think)

But as RP said, it is just pot luck :( I've got a jasper arcade and I cant say its any quieter than my original launch console tbh (it's just cooler and it's not died yet :p)

Just rip the game to the HD, will be much quieter :)

That won't make a difference to the fan noise.

I have two 360's in the house at the moment, one has virtually inaudible fans, the other is a noisy bugger :(

I'll be trading the noisy one towards my MW2 Super Elite next month though.

I wrap mine in clingfilm to cut out the noise. I've gone through 10 360's for some reason and they are all different regards fan noise.

All of mine have been pretty good for fan noise though or I'm just more tolerant to it. :)
