It's been roughly 24 hours since i had the 360, and my first problem has already started...
Well, it's not the 360 thats the problem, its the disk.

So i jolted the xBox a bit and it scratched my disk.. its forza 2, I really wanted to play that game, so i took it in to town as i heard Block Busters can sort it out, They did there machine thing, and most of the scratch was gone, but because of the machine it made parts of the disk look ugly,.
Theres now a ring much towards the centre which is not clean, in fact its dirtier, Its the part which the machine couldn't reach, I'm thinking thats why the disk is not working.

( its the part that says XBOX in holograms) and also a small ring just over the bulge thing.

Pics to come up, though dont know how well it will show

So, its a bit hard to work out.. But on the first photo, you can see a that the center part is totally blured out, and also the small smokey ring just out of the bulge..

second photo you can see the small scar the machine left..

When you put it in the box, it says..
'Please put this disk in to a xbox360 to play' or something smiler

when you put the disk up against the light, you can see some holes the machine made.. can that be where the errors coming from?

Don't Microsoft have a disc replacement program? You might have to pay but it will be cheaper than buying the game again.

Forza isnt in the plan :(
will block buster not do anything about it?

that part of the disc isnt read anyway so it all seems weird

tried any dvds etc in the machine ?

when you knocked it its possible the laser and disc where both damaged

When i put the disk agains the sun, i see areas where the top paint (the pictures) layer has been taken off by the machine, I'm starting to think its that.

If the top layer of the disc is damaged then the disc is dead. The top layer is the data layer and is held flat by being printed onto the plastic disc.

If you damage the bottom of a cd/dvd then the laser beam light is diverted by the scratch and doesn't see the underside of the data layer. Obviously if the data layer is gone then there is nothing to read.

If this damage was not present before you took it to Block Busters then perhaps you should see if they will replace it.

Ok will do,

Jihad> tbh, almost all other disk drives don't mind being moved around a little...

This happened to me, but with Crackdown.

bought it from HMV (not a competitor surely?!) and had the scratches around the disk. Was only a day or two old, took it back to the shop, and said that the disc was faulty. Girl looked at it and changed it right away and apologised....

Give it a go.

will do :), but its a online store, so i will try block busters first. since they did it.

Wait at what point did the disk stop reading? when you 'jolted' the 360 a bit or after blockbuster got hold of it?
Moving the console when on is just plain stupid though.

Yeah, it was my fault, but i didnt think jolting a xbox 360 a bit will cause such thing ( also its was an accident to kick the box which had the 360 on). And before everyone gets the wrong impression, as i think everyone is, this is whats actually happened,

The 360 was on its side on a card board box full of PC engine stuff, i put it on there because i didn't want to put it bare on the carpet on its side.
I stood up to get a cup of water and as i was sitting in front of the 360, my left leg scraped the box casing the 360 to jolt a little, nothing big like 360 collapsing on to its side happened. And no i wont expect a dvd drive to stand a shock like that.

anyways, I think what happened was, after the disk got scratched, the game didnt work because of the scratch, but when block busters were doing there thing with the disk they clamped it on to the machine too strong that it damged the top side of the disk which took some stuff off the surface,

Hey people, give the guy a break.

Shimy hasn't blamed the 360 for damaging his disc. He’s acknowledging the fact that he knocked the console while it was on and that the underside of the disc was damaged.

In an attempt to get the disc repaired he took it to Blockbuster to skim the underside. After the "repair" the disc is now damaged on the topside (data layer).

Now here is the important part, was the topside of the disc damaged before his trip to Blockbuster (i.e. was it the 360 that did the damage when it was knocked) OR was it the disc repair at Blockbuster?

Again, Shimy didn't start his original post blaming the 360 so don't go jumping down his throat!!

OcUK needs more people like you :p,
Anyway no, it was deffinately done by the machine, as there is a ring on the data side of the disk which was caused by the machine while clamped on the rotor. the damage (the hole see though scratch) is along that line.
