360 Game problems, Yes already,...

If the top layer of the disc is damaged then the disc is dead. The top layer is the data layer and is held flat by being printed onto the plastic disc.

If you damage the bottom of a cd/dvd then the laser beam light is diverted by the scratch and doesn't see the underside of the data layer. Obviously if the data layer is gone then there is nothing to read.

If this damage was not present before you took it to Block Busters then perhaps you should see if they will replace it.

Ok will do,

Jihad> tbh, almost all other disk drives don't mind being moved around a little...

This happened to me, but with Crackdown.

bought it from HMV (not a competitor surely?!) and had the scratches around the disk. Was only a day or two old, took it back to the shop, and said that the disc was faulty. Girl looked at it and changed it right away and apologised....

Give it a go.

will do :), but its a online store, so i will try block busters first. since they did it.

It's been roughly 24 hours since i had the 360, and my first problem has already started...
Well, it's not the 360 thats the problem, its the disk.

So i jolted the xBox a bit and it scratched my disk.. its forza 2, I really wanted to play that game, so i took it in to town as i heard Block Busters can sort it out, They did there machine thing, and most of the scratch was gone, but because of the machine it made parts of the disk look ugly,.
Theres now a ring much towards the centre which is not clean, in fact its dirtier, Its the part which the machine couldn't reach, I'm thinking thats why the disk is not working.

( its the part that says XBOX in holograms) and also a small ring just over the bulge thing.

Pics to come up, though dont know how well it will show

Sorry can't blame anyone for this other than yourself. It says don't move the unit whilst its turned on in the instruction booklet and is plastered all over the xbox support forums. It common sense too isn't it?

just crap design but yeah ............

Would you move your pc whilst burning a DVD or installing windows? Jeez, some people. I read this thread and thought it was another faulty 360.

Wait at what point did the disk stop reading? when you 'jolted' the 360 a bit or after blockbuster got hold of it?
Moving the console when on is just plain stupid though.

actually, i wouldnt mind, because nothing will happen, but it will with a 360

which is why people are complaining.

lol, gimmie a break. moving an item like a 360 whilst in use is just plain stupid in my book. Perhaps you should request a "fix" from MS for a future update - "ability to throw the 360 up and down whilst a game is playing". :Z

Calm down guys, most people wouldn't move a console/pc when the disc drive is spinning, but at the same time most people wouldn't expect it to ruin the disc. Quite an oversight in the design of the console not to have fixed it before launch.

Yeah, it was my fault, but i didnt think jolting a xbox 360 a bit will cause such thing ( also its was an accident to kick the box which had the 360 on). And before everyone gets the wrong impression, as i think everyone is, this is whats actually happened,

The 360 was on its side on a card board box full of PC engine stuff, i put it on there because i didn't want to put it bare on the carpet on its side.
I stood up to get a cup of water and as i was sitting in front of the 360, my left leg scraped the box casing the 360 to jolt a little, nothing big like 360 collapsing on to its side happened. And no i wont expect a dvd drive to stand a shock like that.

anyways, I think what happened was, after the disk got scratched, the game didnt work because of the scratch, but when block busters were doing there thing with the disk they clamped it on to the machine too strong that it damged the top side of the disk which took some stuff off the surface,

I was thinking about a high street rental shop.

Not the wrlds best idea TBH. Read the terms and conditions and they have the authority to charge you for the disk if you are suspected of breaking it. Ive not used a disk repairer yet as we aint been sent one yet, but im guessing you will be able to tell between an original and a repaired one so it wont take a monkey to tell if the disks been swapped.

Firstly sorry to hear about your game :(

Secondly, really you should have read the manual it clearly states that you should NEVER get within 10ft of the console, and the DVD tray should only be operated via an extra long MS operating stick you can pick up from any high street retailer for $99.99....

Anyone for frisbie?

The crapbox strikes again!!!!
