Did u read the article??

Yes??

It's great that the 360 may see more Source based games, but I dont see how game graphics are going to improve because of that.

Chairs!

here you go:

October 16, 2006 - Valve let us know that the Source Engine tools are now available to 360 developers:
Source, the technology that powered Valve's Half-Life® 2, is already the benchmark game technology on Microsoft's Windows platform, offering state of the art performance in graphics, networking, artificial intelligence, physics simulation and more. The version of Source, available for Xbox 360, is optimized to utilize the platform's advance graphics hardware and offer full support for Xbox Live®.
"The combination of Source and the Xbox 360 provides game designers throughout the industry the chance to create powerful entertainment experiences," said Gabe Newell, president and co-founder of Valve. "Whether they're pursuing a traditional FPS, RTS, RPG or delving into new genres, Source and the Xbox 360 are designed to offer the flexibility and tools to allow designers to pursue any design imaginable."

I would say that as good as HL2's graphics are, the source engine won't be the best graphically for long. After all, all the piece says is the engine is coming to the 360 and not much else other than PR rubbish.

have to say i'm unimpressed with the quality of the 360s graphics.

Admittedly i'm playing on a 19" TFT as opposed to a 36" HDTV, but i feel they're worse than i expected, and not as good as some of the latest PC games (only tried TDU & PGR3 so far)

Gears of War stick it on pre order will blow any game away graphically even PC well up until we get Crysis. :)

TDU dosnt show off graphics potential at all a lot of new games will start to though. :)

Totally agree, im using a 32" HDTV and the 360 isnt as good as its hyped up to be.

Its the tearing and poor framerates that really tick me off.

really? im using a 32 inch HDTV, and the graphics in Oblivion, and TDU,, impress the hell outta me, and i even sold my high end pc, because of this

Oh dont get me wrong the image quility is nice, but as i said the framerates and the tearing in some games have been very very poor.

Just as bad on their pc counterparts as well.

Assuming you are talking about the likes of Oblivion, NFS:MW etc.

The games specific to the 360 (kameo (the hundreds of trolls on screen at once with zero slowdown springs to mind), PGR3 etc) all have decent framerates and don't show much signs (if at all) of tearing.

The problem appears to be more down to shoddy coding than the console itself.

Gear of war for example is looking stunning and from the footage I have seen silky smooth with zero tearing. Most likely down to the fact that the developers were only making it for the 360 and could put 100% of their effort into getting it smooth and playable on the 360.

As a quick mention TD:U has some of the best car models in any game to date. The city, surrounding area is also fantastic (for example if you drive into the middle of a forest there is swaying trees, plants etc yet virtually no slowdown unlike onblivion).

However the game is not the most graphically impressive game avaiable as no doubt due to the scale of the game and the fact it has no load times (seamless driving) sacrifices had to made visually to make sure the game met its release deadline and still ran smooth. (slight judders are apparent in the middle of the cities at speed).

If the graphics don't impress you then never mind, stick with your PC. Only not everyboby wants or can afford a fancy PC. As for judging graphics on the 360, it always takes some time for any console to start hitting its stride. Me thinks this Christmas might be good for the 360.

i find the graphics amazing.

i have owned consoles since they first appeared and the advancces still astound me. some of the clips of gears of war look real. the backgrounds in pgr are incredible.

i think we have all come to expect perfection. we are not far off!
