360 HDMI sound options

Don't have a digital input unfortunatly so what would give better sound quality to my 5.1 surround system..

An Xbox 360 HDMI Cable and 2 RCA to 2 RCA from the dongle to my stereo

or

Any HDMI cable and a 3.5mm plug to 2 RCA from my monitor headphone out to my stereo?

Or would they be the same?

They would probably be the same but the first option is the most direct way of connecting it your stereo so may sound marginally better.

That's what I suspected, thanks Wagon. It just comes down to cost then, £17 vs £5. Would the first option be worth the extra cost, maybe not.

can you not use the componet video lead rca audio plugs with your hdmi

think is a tight fit some people strip the plastic of the cable in order to get both video leads in the back of the 360

Yes you can but we share the xbox between 2 rooms so the component lead lives in another room.

I'll go second option for now and see how it is, I'm not a massive gamer just wondered if there would be a big difference. There's not so cool.
