Hey guys last week I treated myself to a new Samsung 40" Smart TV and even bought a £100 super dooper HDMI cable, but compared to my first gen 26" Samsung LCD and playing through vga the 360 looks bloody terrible
Maybe the screen being smaller I never noticed the low resolution? Or maybe vga gives a sharper image?

Any one else have a similar problem?

I've found that to get the best out of some TVs you need to tweak the settings. My LG for example, it looked very ordinary when I first fired it up. But going online and getting a guide for the best settings it now looks lovely.

On top of that, it may be the resolution of the Xbox needs changing or it may simply be your eyes need to get used to the bigger screen. Let's be honest, the Xbox looks nowhere near as sharp or crisp as a PC as the same res.

Well I can't comment about a 360 on a 40inch TV I would say get a refund on that HDMI cable if you can. A cheap HDMI cable will be exactly the same as a £100 one. Don't waste your money on expensive cables.

I did have a £8 Blockbuster hdmi cable and thought it was that so went straight back to *competitor* and got the £100 which didn't look any different at all >.<

I hope you get a refund on the cable though. As said, the cheap cable will either work or it wont, there's nothing in between in terms of quality.

You got fleeced with the HDMI cable

I find VGA is softer on the edges than HDMI, maybe play around with the sharpness setting on the TV.

I would make sure that you have set it up correctly in the display settings. I am using my PS3 and 360 on a 46" LCD TV and it looks mint even when i run it at 720p. Something is amis..

You've been a member of a tech forum for 7 years and bought a £100 HDMI cable! I can't even comprehend what would make anyone do such a thing let alone a long time forum member.

HDMI is digital it as two states - on or off (1 or 0) it's not like analogue where the conductive material used had a bearing on sound and vision ;)

I moved from a Samsung 40" LCD to a 50" LG plasma and the picture was awful at first but after a couple of weeks it bedded in and now it's as good as the LCD was (to my eyes anyway)

Time and a cheaper cable is all you really need!
