Seeing as I got my 360 back from microsoft and it had exactly the same error, it got me thinking. Could it have been the power supply? I mean, on the letter they sent back they said they tested it extensively, so wouldn't it crash for them too? I saw something on the net saying the 3 red lights can be caused by the power supply. If the light is orange when the 3 red lights are flashing, its the power supply. Unfortunately I didn't think to check mine.
I did however run the secret diagnostic and the error code meant overheating. Would it do this if it was the power supply?

The reason why I'm suspicious is that I bought my 360 hand and I'm not sure the power supply is official. It says microsoft on it but it has Chinese and english writing. Do the official ones have this?

It's explained properly in the FAQ but when the lights are showing hold down sync, press eject and it gives u a number of lights, then let go of eject, and press it again, another number of lights etc......

I had the 3 lights on friday, went to un-plug it and heard a crackling noise from the power brick. The 3 pin cable wasn't pushed in properly.
So yes, i think it could be your PSU, if it's not getting enough juice it gives the lights.
