360 router help

Hi all,

My lovely new shiny 360 is arriving in a week or so and ideally i want to get it online but i'm really confused about which router i'd need :confused: .
My plan was to have the the wireless router downstairs next to the TV and Xbox, connect that via an ethernet cable and then have connect to my PC upstairs wirelessly. I was just hoping someone could point me in the direction of such a router, i've browsed the site and it hit me that i really know next to nothing about routers. :eek:

oh yeah, it would need to be a modem/router as i currently use an PCI modem in my pc
 
no, i was hoping to get one with either a card or a usb dongle - or are they to be avoided like the plague?

I'd go for a wireless PCI card over a USB dongle. Though you may have to connect your router to the PC with a RJ45 whilst setting it up, not sure?
 
hmmm possibly about twice what i wanted to spend lol

anything for about £60 odd?

nice, thats more my kinda price range....

there's nothing in that spec to suggest it wouldn't be compatible with xbox live then?

and then i'd just need a run of the mill wirless card for my PC too?

It'll work fine with live.

Yeah either a card or a dongle for the PC, just make sure it is a wireless "G" one, a "b" would be sloooooooooow.

Technically speaking 802.11n is not yet a standard. Thus a Pre-N network device is not based on the latest standard but on a guess as to what the upcoming standard will be. The 802.11n standard is not due for final approval until July 2007.

That is true. Although it is hugely unlikely that pre-n equipment from the likes of Linksys will not be compatible with 802.11n either natively or via firmware upgrade.
So "if it was me" I would get that because it remains the fastest and I will be gobsmacked if it doesn't work on the "n" standard in the end.
