360 "slim" and natal to be called Kinect?

I just watched the rest of the Joystiq unboxing and the guy is absolutely brutal with it. I like the glossy finish and the touch sensitive buttons which are like the ones I have on my Blu-Ray player, but I have to say it doesn't appear to be that much smaller than the original 360's.

i know the new 360 is supposed to not have the rrod, but for those worried would it possibly be better to get the older style now whilst it's still available which would give 3 year warranty, compared to 1 year of new 360?

This is a good point, I've been thinking the same also, I think I may grab a Jasper Arcade when they drop in price which they said will be happening so then I've got a fairly reliable system for at least 3 years for peanuts.

If it was me personally buying a 360 now then I'd wait till these are released, they look nicer, they'll probably consume less power, they come with big sized HDD's for a console and they have the extras like wifi already built in. Sure, it comes with only a 1 year warranty but by now you'd expect Microsoft to already know how to make a reliable console using the 360 architecture. I would go with the 'slim' if it was my money.

Do you reckon they'd be available for under £100? The 360 would only be my secondary system for its exclusives, so I'm thinking the less spent on it, the better (since the slim is so hideous!) :p

Just ordered mine.. Supposed to ship later this week. (In North America) I've always liked the games on the XBOX but always HATED the noise and reliabilty. So this has been a long time in the waiting for me... Bit upset about the external power supply, but can't have it all.. JUST hope they didn't use the same buffoon engineers as they did on the original.

This may sound a bit deceitful but what are the chances of lets say in a few months when all old stock of the current elite model ( which is being replaced by this new one ) are gone that I could bring my elite ( purchased April this year in a high street retailer ) back to said retailer because my elite suddenly " developed " a fault ....... that I would get a straight over replacement ( as they do currently ) for this new model ( same retail value )?

I would have thought that it would be highly unlikely.

It's a new console, and given the price point it's coming in at, and dropping the current top model down in price, it shows that a straight replacement for the new 360 isn't a valid exchange.

Their first priority will be to get it repaired. Also, don't forget that just because Microsoft may no longer be making the older Xbox, doesn't mean that stock is going to be totally exhausted. This new model has crept up quite well, I'm not aware that there have been much in the way of reports of Xboxs in short supply, where retailers would clearly be holding less stock because of a new machine coming.

Instead, as they are dropping the price of the Elite, there will still be plenty of stock around for sometime, especially available to large high-street retailers. Then you also have to consider that if it does go back to Microsoft, they still have plenty of reserve stock available to themselves and more importantly, they have the parts to fix damaged consoles.

So in summary, I don't think you are likely to get a new 'slim' Xbox by taking your old one back to the shop, even if it was broken.

After watching the unboxing vid...

+ Touch controls on console
+ Seems very quiet, even the drive?
+ 5 USB ports

- Power brick still
- No HDMI cable in the box - what the hell is it with MS and Sony not supplying them!?

Really not sure whether to get one, my elite is three years old in November, so might wait until the end of the three year warranty and get one then, or trade in straight away. How quiet are these supposed to be?

What about transferring data to the new one. How would that be done? Can I simply redownload dlc I have purchased?

As I obviously wouldn't have the old console to transfer from.

DLC can be re-downloaded easily to the new console once you've signed in with your Live account.

They said data transfer was the same as the current console, i.e. you could use a data transfer kit. Only thing is they did mention it would be available to retail this time, so it's possibly a different lead?

Also, you could just use a USB stick to transfer game saves (I think game saves would work?) which if you didn't have the old console would be better for you.

Yep, they'll keep replacing the old models for some time to come. Before Jasper, they had a revision of the motherboard called Opus that was used purely for replacements of older model Xenon boards that had failed, so it had various things to make it less likely to fail but it still didn't include HDMI, even though the revisions being sold at that time did. I see no reason to believe they won't keep producing Jasper boards for replacements for failures to existing units.

Well my X360 is about 4 years old and could do with an update, i love the look of this.
£199 for the new console i think is pretty good and only a month to wait til the 16th July.
I think they should have gone with the name 'Stealth' for it.
Kinect should be interesting.

I'm defo getting one....but am I the only person who doesnt like touch controls? I much prefer a tactile click. No biggie of course.

not sure really, i do like the sleekness of touch buttons but i do find myself knelt in front of the PS3 waiting for it to turn off while im caressing it, i do like the feel of a button been pressed so i know ive pressed it.
Either way im not fussed, im just happy with a larger HDD and sexy gloss black :D
*fap fap*

Yeah, for example.

I set an Xbox back to Microsoft at the end of last year, the third time returning what was my original, non-HDMI Premium, with them each time sending me a new console. They again sent me a new console, but it was still a non-HDMI model. So they still have plenty of stock.
