Seen a lot of people have their 360's set up on their desks through their monitors. Thinking about doing it myself. Might stop the mrs whine-ing at me when i want to play fifa online!

What cable do you use, and how does the audio work?

I play through a 24" monitor and it's fine. Use a VGA Cable which comes with a sound jack which you then plug into your PC's microphone soundcard jack.

I've never compared them my self, but apparently the unofficial ones are terrible.

I've used unofficial ones and found zero difference in quality. Same goes for other cables. I've used a Belkin and a non-brand Optical cable. No difference.

With the official one do you get the RCA adapter, and the coupler? Or do i need to get these separately?

I use VGA adapter, not official, but from a high street 'game' retailer ;)

Had to buy couple of adapters for the sound to connect my headphones/speakers

I use the official VGA cable to connect to my 26" LCD. I've also heard bad things about non official cables.

Sound wise, the red and white go into my aux inputs on my amp, or if I have my x-rocker up, they plug into the connectors supplied.

easy/

I bought a monitor earlier this year especially for this.
24" 1080p Dell with HDMI.
I think it was only about £140 ish.
Best thing i've done, for the reasons you stated ;)

edit: the monitor has an Audio Out socket (0.9mm ?), the normal one anyway. I run a lead from that to a second input on my speakers.
