360 UT3 Will Have Modifications

Counter strike is a paid for mod, but at the same time, it is also a free mod you get.

i got CS Source with HL2 for nowt.

It is just gonna be interesting to see what transpires with this. Still can't see live opening up any more, and with someone from EA now in charge of the xbox 360, expect to be microtransactioned up the rear, since they where the first big screwers of the system.

Mods for the 360 version wouldn't be made with XNA. The Unreal Engine has it's own development system.

Yeah i know, but Zico had mentioned the XNA as a possible way into Live for the mods.

The XNA creators club? I don't suppose that extends to games not made with XNA.

I had completely forgotten about Epic's own development tools. I was only thinking along the lines of the XNA creators club as I know that this is readily available to all. Can the same be said for Epic's tools?

If Epic have tools that can be used both on PC and Xbox 360 by anybody at home, then this may be the way forward.

It's all speculative right now. The only thing we can be sure of is that mod's will be made :D.

do ya reckon you would you be able to use the ps3 or xbox to make the mods ?

as in linux or other software and a mouse and keyboard , download the stuff you need off the net etc ?

cant see why you couldnt with the ps3 to be honest . well if they get all the drivers and stuff sorted for linux

In one of the interviews, think it was gamespot, Epic said they was looking into ways a PS3 owner could make his own mods without a PC, not sure how it would work or what they would use but its being considered.

They come with the game. It's not really comparable to XNA because XNA is a framework to build a stand alone game, where as the free Unreal tools can only be used to make mods for the game they came with.

They could make a version of UnrealEd that works on the PS3's linux OS. For previous versions of the engine they never bothered supporting anything other than windows versions of the tools, but I imagine it's different this time round, especially since there are now several Japanese companies with UE3 licences, apparently most Japanese devs use Linux.
