360-watchdog

why couldnt WATCHDOG do the decent thing, and give out some strogn advice?

advise every failed XBOX360 owner to return their console to the retail stores en masse.

this would pressure the retail chains to actually make microsoft aware of the problem and push the problem onto them.

then maybe the situation would have been addressed!!

Yes was surprised that Watchdog did not advise people on their right under the sale of goods act to demand a refund or replacement due to an inherent manufacturing defect at time of sale.

It is becoming clear that to Meet the new euro requirements for lead free solder has led to motherboards that are badly soldered and are failing en masse. This to me seems to be time critical so the more you use it the more likely the defect will occur.

Watchdog need to consider their purpose also as their advise was useless.

My 360 began to crash over the past few weeks, and last night I got the red rings.

Dug the box out, and thankfully it was still in warranty (until today), so I went to the shop last night and exchange it for a new one.

A £300 console shouldn't fail after 12 months use, it should easily last a couple of years if not longer.

im hopefully due to get one soon, so by now the probs should have been sorted, my mate still has his console from the launch day with no reported probs, but if it did and it wwas mine i kick up a fuss.

if i was buying one id put it on my barclay card as that gives you a 2yr warrenty any ways.

I'm not being funny but there should be some law with regards to the purchase of electrical goods. I know they've got their 1 year warrenty, but IMHO this just isn't good enough. And for the so called "Electrical goods should last a reasonable amount of time" 1 years warrenty just dosn't cover this. It should be at least 5 years time, its just a sodding joke if you ask me.
Fortunatly for me the only thing i've ever had break(making funny noises from the day it was delivered) on me was a Corsair 520W PSU which I sent back to OCUK straight away and got replaced promptly.

Now don't get me wrong there are companys out there that give a decent warrenty period like said "Corsair", and Geil with their lifetime warrenty (i'm sure theres others) but this should just become standard. Quit using shoddy parts! Yes this may bump the price up a bit, but for the sake of a 5p capacitor compared to a 20p cap, 90% of the time you won't have so many failures.

Anyway I don't own a 360, and TBH probably won't, I have a Wii instead and xbox 1, & decent PC, but I do feel for you guys that have had to return those POS's back just to receive another POS. Rant over.

another £25 and you get another years warranty.

i think people are silly to not buy it because it "might" break. it's like me saying i'm not going to buy a car because it "might" break down.

I shouldn't have to buy an additional warranty for a product because it's known to have problems - it should work. My SNES works from 15 years ago, my N64 works, my DC works, the PS2 works...

It's like me saying I'm not buying that car, because it's an expensive purchase and it's known for unreliability; not that I won't buy any car because it might break down. I simply can't afford to buy one and for it to break - same as any £200+ product. It's a shame.

There are.
Sale of goods act......
Statutory rights........

Microsoft admits isolated cases of unexpected performance, they also note that the failure rate is "significantly less" than the industry standard of 3-5%.

How can they say that. Are they comparing 3-5% of a systems total life span over 5 years to say the Xbox 360's 1 year on the market.

Is the industry return rate 3-5% over 5 years or in the first year?
Also we have not literally had hundreds of returns on this forum alone.
Certainly there are problems, I've had one fail myself. But clouding the issue with incorrect assumptions won't help.
I think it might be time for a new 360 returns poll to better assess the number of returns people have had.

forum polls mean nothing, they easily get MS haters and the like voting and giving a untrue result, somewhere else is doing the same thing and actually sending the result to watchdog, totally pointless unless it can be a 100% acurate result.

I'd be more interested in the number of peole who actually returned a console that didn't have 3 red lights but simply return it due to say lockups/freezing which are mainly due to internet dropouts yet blaming the console and thinking its borked and getting a replacement

Heehee what all 4 of us on here who don't look at the 360 through green tinted glasses?
Considering this forum is full of xbox fanboys i think it would be more likely that the figures would be soft.

Either way i will still vote and say i have not returned a launch day console.

And if MS have had less than 500,000 consoles returned i would be bloody well shocked. Which would be less than 5% of the insudstry standard.
They may manage to soften up the numbers by counting customers with returns and not machines returned. So if a customer goes through 4 machines, they only counting it as 1 return.

Mine froze up when I got oblivion which was a common issue.

I was one of the smug ones, my launch 360 never had an issue except the expected locks in PGR3 menu and oblivion etc. But I sold it in Sept 06 because of lack of decent games, everyone else in my office has had replacements with one guy being on his fifth . So I bought another in Dec(manuf date oct 06) so a new quiter one, but the DVD is knackered and complains of unreadable discs all the time.

There is a problem and the sooner the see no evil hear no evil brigade acknowledge that instead of sticking with their fanboyish stance of "only xbox haters claim to have problems" we may see this problem being addressed by MS.

How times have changed, when we had the big 360 reliability poll thread, i was flamed to hell for saying its buggered, and you shouldn't be on 6+ consoles, you buy them to play on, not have to send em back to M$ every month or so as they keep dying, there is a problem, and if mine died id get a refund as no way was i gona keep sending 360's back, but no they wouldn't have it, 'its perfectly normal' etc... 'nothing wrong with 360's', and anyones who's died was getting accused of user error, as they are perfectly fine, 'stop keeping them in cupboards' 'stop putting them on top of radiators', 'its your own fault its died as they fine' 'user error' etc... etc... where have they all gone now.

I thought they would have flamed you all to hell in here and accused you of breaking your consoles by keeping them in a cupboard, or in the fire while using it, as according to those 360's do not die, they are fine, being on 6+ is normal, if you have had more than 1 then its your own fault, you broke it, where are they ?? :p
