Hi all,

I've been asked to look in to connecting a 360 to the internet and it has to be wireless.

I know the 360 gold account is £40 a year, they already have a wireless router + BB. I know you can get the official 360 wifi adapter for £50-60 but are there any cheaper options and what are they like?

Thanks

Trade in old 360 for new "slim" one which has built-in wireless?

Not sure how much would work out to, not knowing details of the existing xbox

Why trade in a perfectly good working xbox for another and have to shell out more on that than you would on a MS wifi adapter?

If you could sell it/trade in for decent price, getting a new one might now cost much more than buying an adapter?

It was merely a suggestion. Take it onboard or don't. Up to you.

new warranty, integrated wifi + bigger HDD, potentially a more stable chipset/cpu/gpu that wont RROD (though no one actually knows yet), less power consumed and I guess also that a few shops are doing a good deal on trade-ins at the min.

I think some people use a wireless ethernet bridge to convert a wired ethernet to wireless but I don't know about cost.

TBH I think for simplicity it's probs best to just get a MS Adapter. it's basically plug and play :)

Before going the Slim route have a nose around your local high street games places for second hand wireless adaptors. Usually a fair bit cheaper than what you pick them up new for. Have a shop around for Live subs too, easily available for less than £30 for 12 months.

Yeah, Live can be had for £28 quid from cheapxboxlivecodes.com

As for the wireless adapter, the official one often pops up at around £30 with the wireless N being a little more. There are also a number of Xbox 360 wireless bridges that can be used instead of the official adapter , although I don't know much about pricing. That being said, I havethe official adapter and it's been faultless and would recommend one to anyone.

If your Xbox is nearish a PC, the cost is the price of an ethernet cable (if you don't have one handy), along with the possible inconvenience of needing your PC on to be able to connect. Mine is always on anyway, and I had loads of cable spare so for me, it was free :)

I was talking about the actual wireless ethernet bridges you can buy (no PC needed) :)

but yes, another good option if you have a PC close enough to your xbox, bridging the network connections will achieve the same thing
