Finally convinced the wife the xbox is dead, long live the xbox360 and i'm looking to get a 360 at the weekend.

Problem I have is that my TV is a little on the aged side and only has component(?) inputs, not even any scarts  A new TV will follow shortly but will the leads i get with a premium 360 allow me to connect to my old TV for the moment???

Please save me from wandering the 360 less wilderness.

Cheers

You have composite, not component (thats for HD).

The console comes with a HD component lead, but it also doubles as a composite connection (yellow video, red & white audio) as well so you should have no problem.

I wouldn't buy a 360 if you're just using standard definition TV, especially over composite. Stick with PS2 or Xbox imo. Kinda defeats the point, like buying a X1900XTX Crossfire and using a EGA monitor.

use mine normally on 32" lcd over component, but ive tested it on my 14" crt in my study with composite still looked stunning

It's really not that bad, I have played a 360 on a decent 4:3 CRT via composite and it doesn't look all that bad, PGR3 looked fine, could see all you needed to.

Besides a new TV is following shortly.

Better you get a widescreen 17/19" computer TFT, for 150 odd.

I'd rather play a 360 on a 28/32in SD-CRT than a tiny TFT, as I'd want to play it in the living room, not at a desk.

User preference I suppose. But least at a desk you can double it up as a computer monitor too.

Playing on a couch is just a recipe for back/eye strain tbh. : )

But far more a social thing compared to a desk, rubbish crowding your mates round a tiny TFT when you can all relax easily on a sofa, which is how I see the 360 more personally, but that's just me, and a lot of people here will prefer the other.

It'll look lovely on your TV; a big improvement over your XBox. One thing you may want to check though, is whether it can handle PAL60 as some games require this.

sorry but that's absolute rubbish.

It doesn't matter what the 360 is hooked up to, it'll look great. it just looks better if it's on a HDTV. and you don't miss out on any game content either if using a normal tv.

Anyone who doesn't get the 360 just because they have a "normal" tv (like 90% of the population) is a fool.

That’s almost exactly what I was going to say.

Yup^

I've got a 21" CRT TV and 17" TFT in here and Burnout Revenge looks awesome at 1280x720 over VGA but it was still perfectly acceptable in SD over composite.

daveyD is right, big tv > little TFT, its all about group gaming or relaxing in the chair

and i had a old tv with the 360, still loved it and it looked good

Agreed, Sony 28" Trinitron Widescreen here using the Advanced Scart, looks stunning. :)

Thanks guys you've put my mind at rest, I was a bit worried I was going to have to shell out for the TV first and the missus was never going to go for that.

Off to hunt for the best package deal:D
