Ever since I got GTA and started using my 360 again it won't sign in to Live on the dashboard, it just shows the little loading ring then has the connect to Xbox Live button on the dashboard again. It only connects when I load a game, so I can't go on the marketplace or do anything on the dashboard. I also used the 1 month free trial with GTA to upgrade my old account that I cancelled off Gold last year as I wasn't going to use my Xbox until GTA, is this what has ****** it up. If it stays this way what can I do, as technically my Xbox isn't working properly, and it over 2 years old, could I send it back and demand a new console (also it has one of the pants DVD drives that is pretty much on it's way, why shudn't I be entitled to a replacement one anyway, seeing as the DVD drive clearly has trouble keeping up with GTA and is constantly clicking and coing to a stop). Thanks.

Yeh did that, nothing has changed NAT open etc. Just ever since I started playing GTA or I think it was after I put on the 1 month trial it happened. My mate said it happened to him when he used a 1 month code, it only lets you connect when you are in a game, seem weird though as any silver accounts I have won't connect. I was going to wait til the gold ran out but I don't want to be stuck with this Xbox if it doesn't work after. Oh, and after a connection test when it says it is fine I try signing in and nothing, it like signs in for a sec when I have the blade up when you press the middle button, but then it goes again. It isn't a huge problem, because all I want to play is GTA for now, and then when I bore of that/it comes out on PC I will go back to my PC, just don't want to pay for like 3 months to find it still does it.

Exact same thing is happening for me! I just recovered my gamertag on my new Xbox, and it will not sign in on the dashboad at all. It says it signs into Xbox live when I run a game but I can't find any online games on Gears of War for example, it just says no games found. Connection test says everthing is fine, I have downloaded some map packs from Live but I can't connect through dashboard or find online games!

Tried leaving it on the dashboard for like 10 mins or so ? normally when it does that its bringing together stuff getting updates etc. If you havnt let it run like that then it will just keep doing it. Happened to me left xbox for like 30 mins while i went driving came back it loaded the dashboard. Never had any issues since then.

I had the same problem recently, turned out my account had been banned due to them not being able to charge my card as the card had been cancelled. Have you tried signing onto xbox.com and check what your status is there?

I had that problem before, the connection test would say everything was fine but I couldn't login to live. Turns out my gamertag had somehow corrupted, whatever you do don't try to recover it if that is the case (it may not be) as it will stop downloading your tag halfway through due to an error and leave you with no working tag. Create a new account which should give you a free months trial of gold and see if that logs in fine (as it did for me). If it does give it a few days and it should sort itself out.

Created a new gamertag and got the free 1 month of gold, but I still get the same problem. I try to connect, it does the swirly circle thing then it just goes back to the dashboard having not connected. Also I can't start a new campaign in Gears of War. When I select the difficulty it either goes back to the difficulty selection screen straight away or loads a bit then goes back. Something is majorly wrong. It says it will overwrite the current checkpoint, there is no current checkpoint because I can't choose continue campaign. I even deleted the GoW profile thing from the hard drive.

Also when I was creating my gamertag I chose an email and it said it was taken, but I couldn't believe it because it was so uncommon, so I went onto Windows Live/Hotmail on my PC and checked the availability of the address, and it was not taken. What the hell is going on.

EDIT: Thought I'd disconnect the ethernet cable and try start a GoW game then, but the cable is stuck SOLID in the 360, as if it has been superglued in there or something. I only pushed it in gently until I heard a click when first putting it in there. WTF is going on.

EDIT2: Finally got the cable out, the plastic clip things are really crappy on the cable that comes with the console. Anyway I disconnected the cable and I can play GoW fine. I reformatted the hard disk, recovered my new profile and the problems still persist. I'm really not impressed with Microsoft right now, I've literally had nothing but problems for the past 3 hours at least.

Do you think I will be able to get a refund? I'm still having problems and it has now crashed 4 times, everytime I try to create a new gamerprofile/Live ID something goes wrong also, usually it crashes. I'm sick of this and I'm severely ****** off with MS right now.

OMFG, I just phoned up their support line and explained the problem, every little detail, and they said they won't replace it or take it for repair, even though it has crashed many times. They told me to contact my ISP because that is the problem. BULL****. I had no problems with Live on my old Xbox a few days ago! Seriously **** Microsoft, this is the last time I EVER buy one of their consoles.

I have had some similar issues. a few days ago I wasn't getting anywhere trying to use the dashboard. It told me I had logged in but spent the entire time with the spinning progress thing. The dashboard is working fine for me now though. Apart from yesterday I haven't actually tried to play online in 5 days, but when I tried to join games yesterday it was just telling me there were no sessions. I have recently re-recovered my account but was working fine without any issues for over a week after the recovery

Changed the ethernet cable, formatted the entire HD, tried to create a new profile/live ID. "That email is in use" Even if I put "[email protected]"...."That email is in use".

...

WTF.

Also is the hard drive supposed to be so loose? It clips in at one end with the button thing, but the other end doesn't clip in at all which means sometimes it just seems to disconnect itself. This entire console seems buggered.

You are sliding it in properly aren't you?

hiya people figured i'd ask your advise here instead of opening new thread so here goes.

my live setup was via ICS connection so pc connects via adsl usb router and my xbox connects throught the ethernet slot on the pc to share the internet.

well the ethernet ports been damaged i dont know how just doesnt work any longer so brought a rj45 to usb adapter so i could try and connect this way.
all i seem to get is limited to no connection on the pc icon and when i do test on xbox it cant get an ip address.

i've tried repairing the connectiopn on the pc but just comes up cannot renew ip address .

my networking knowledge is very limited so can someone please advise?

Gears is pretty much dead online now it will take a while to find a game and most games are populated by people padding for the achievements

Yeah I managed to fix the connection problem by downgrading my router firmware (I was using some unofficial firmware). I played some GoW online yesterday. It sucked becasuse of too much lag due to the games are always being hosted in the US, plus the game just isn't very good online anyway tbh. I wanted to get all the achievements but some of them are just a joke and the playing it online is frustrating as hell. We were ALWAYS outnumbered due to someone leaving, then of course we lose every other game pretty much.

GoW was great fun when it was played a lot but it's been overtaken by cod 4 and gta 4 etc.

So what you're saying is: Instead of you're post above slating MS and their support (they told you to go talk to your ISP). They were actually nearly right, as you've messed around with your router firmware?

Shocker.
