Also the first step towards homebrew on the 360 hopefully. Once a save game exploit is discovered I'm sure things will come along leaps and bounds.
although microsoft didnt come out with a all singing all dancing divx/streaming multi-media center machine, i can safely say i really dont want that to happen :(
i hope ms crack down on this somehow...

Exactly the reason why I won't be using it!

I can kinda understand the need, you may have someone play Call of Duty 3 or Kameo2 with a fantastic ending. Someone may not be very good at the game so you could 'give' your save to them, allow them to see the ending, but achievements aren't affected. As someone mentioned above, the fantastic opportunity to extract PGR3 screenshots of videos would be a godsend, and even to backup games that you've downloaded from Live if you don't own a HDD. All good potential reasons to use it.

But, I suspect MS will be onto this within days and will put a block on it. How, I don't know, but I'd have thought the many people that will use this will have their save games destroyed someway.

They already are comming along leaps and bounds, I have been told from a good source that the first mod chips will be getting beta tested soon, cant say anymore due to forum rules.

MS have already released 1 patch to stop it and im pretty sure that they will be able to stop most of it given the fact that updates are so easy to apply!

You do know homebrew is not the same as piracy?

The only thing I would even consider using this for would be to get my PGR3 screenshots out. Anyone know if it's possible?

Absolutely no idea but I do know you have to dismantle the HDD casing to be able to do this, not something I plan on doing.

You have to plug the drive into a SATA port on your PC so you have to take apart the case to get at the HDD. I imagine it won't be long before there's a better way of doing this or some kind of adapter so you don't need to take the casing apart.

The line between such devices for homebrew and piracy is thin.

The only real homebrew app for the original Xbox is XBMC and which, although crippled for now, is implemented in the 360 to a certain degree.

If Microsoft wish to allow save games to be swapped or the 360 to play more file formats, then I am sure that in good time they will (I say this under the presumption that anything Microsoft doesn't support now may be supported in the PS3 by Sony thus forcing Microsoft's hand into implemting such support).

Save game devices like on previous consoles were legitimate. If Microsoft have plans to allow such devices with the 360, I am sure that they will have licenced the use to 3rd party companies such as Joytech/Madcatz.

Without being rather handy with a decent digital camera you could run S-Video into a TV card or enabled GFX card and use DScaler software, it will screengrab.

The other way which should be better is to record the game on a DVD recorder, play or rip the disc to PC and use a tool like Power DVD to screen grab from that.

*Both these will not be in Hi-Def mode but could give decent quality.

i honestly dont see the problem with this, if it doesnt effect gamer scores.
I mean there is already a similar easier to use thing for the xbox and PS2, think its the datel max drive or sommit like that. its perfectly legit and understandable to want to swap game saves.
What it will do though is it is a big step in the bid to run linux or something on the xbox360 and xmc wont be far away.
and homebrew doesnt bother me tbh i aint interested in it.

I cant afford hi def and it looks spot on thru a normal telly, no way worth 1k imo just for slight 360 visual improvment, maybe ill just plug it thru my monitor.

You can get a 26" HDTV by a major brand for under £500 so a lot less than 1k m8.

depends on what the homebrew your thinking of though. but yea i guess i was wrong, i just thought you worded it like that due to the rules etc on illegal talk.

The latest version can transfer photos from PGR3!! Now that is good.

As for the whole issue of cheating in achievements and piracy of Live Arcade, I hope that neither ever happen. Live Arcade is the best thing to happen to gaming and is a real chance for smal companies to get their games out to people. This app needs to be very careful.
