I bought this hard drive from the members market last year, but only just got round to fitting it into my spare pc this morning. However, if i put it as the D drive, the pc doesn't boot, and the hard drive makes a clicking sound. If i put it as the C drive, im not able to format it with windows, and it wont boot.

Sounds like it's bitten the bullet.. Grab a copy of UBCD which has WD diagnotics tools. This boots straight from the CD and will determine if there is a fault.

If it's goosed, there may be outstanding warranty on it as well.... I've recently returned a dead 36gb Raptor that the warranty ran out on later this year and they've sent me a 75gb Velociraptor as a warranty replacement.

Worth checking out. I didn't have the original receipt from when I bought it a few years back and there were no issues on that front either.

they are 5 yr warrenty iirc, i had 2 36gig raptors in 2004, both died round the same time a couple of years ago, and i got them replaced with 2 74gig ones, and 1 of the 74 died last week so i sent them both back (advance rma) and have 2 150gig raptors now with 2 months warrenty left, not bad going lol
