36mp D800E Raw's only 10mb (Faster Processing - Less Storage requirements)

I know hardware upgrade is not an option but surely 8gb of ram will struggle with most authoring applications given the screen resolution.

I use iMac 27" with 16gb ram and processing 20-25mb 5D Mark II photos from an external USB2 HDD has a delay of about a 1-1.5 second to load. It use to take three times as long when the system came with 4gb ram.

I would just pimp the system out to its maximum ram capability and still use new workflow to speed up the process even more.

From my experience, the speed of your storage is much more significant in terms of performance if you already have a healthy amount of ram.
In LR, the slowdowns come from disk reads and processor load when rendering previews.
Also faster CPU's reduce the need for larger pools of ram.
