Hello

Can anyone recommend a decent 37" LCD TV? I'm considering getting a TV that can do HD as I have a PS3 but currently only a standard definition TV. I'm struggling a bit with where to start. I've had a look in some shops to try and get an idea with what I want and I think a 37" set would work in the room best. The current TV is 32" I think.

I like how the Panasonic Viera TXL37S10B, TXL37G10b and TXL37G15B look aesthetically and there is a shop near me that has these priced at £499, £599 and £649 respectively. I've read a couple of reviews which gave them generally good reviews/good scores but as yet I don't have anything to compare them against.

Can anybody recommend some alternatives to consider?

Bump

Sorry! Anyone? I saw a Samung 37 with a rectangular base for about £560 but it was only 50HZ rather than the 100HZ of the two more expensive panasonics. Not sure I like the clear bit around the edge of the bezel either.

I bought a TX-P37X20B last week, its the smallest Plasma you can get, but for image quality its ahead of simularly priced LCDs. (£500)

the 37G10 and G15 are exactly the same bar the viera cast features, and dlna via ethernet, they are great telly though, and much better than the S10 and a lot better than the entry level plasma.

if i was buying a new tv now, id have dlna features on it, so id buy the g15.

Cool well last time I checked the G15 was only £50 more expensive and I do like the design of those models. Still not decided though, I guess I should just go for it but despite having saved for ages and having the funds available I still feel quite reluctant. It's like the more I save the less I want to part with the money.

Just managed to find the G15 for £549 plus £19 delivery. This is even better than the local store price of £649 (free delivery), £80 saving if it's legit. Worth a punt I suppose.

Just pulled the trigger after several weeks of deliberation. It is supposedly going to be delivered tomorrow but we'll see. I'll need to get a stand for it now too.

Paid the £569.98 price.

OK I've had the TV for a week now and I'm really pleased with it. Yesterday the octo LNB that I ordered arrived and I managed to get that set up on the satellite. So now in the lounge with the new TV we have sky+ and Free Sat HD (this is why i needed the octo LNB) and in another room we have sky+HD. Probably won't watch the free sat much seeing as we have SKY+ in that room but it will come in handy for the odd HD program on BBC HD or ITV HD, maybe some football if they show any.

I managed to pick up a new TV stand from one of the big retailers for £51 as it was ex display, the last one they had and also had a scratch on the top sheet of glass but this isn't very noticable. I took a couple of pictures in case anyones interested.

Looks nice mate, enjoy.
A question about the LNB.
Did you just switch that for the previous, ran a cable to the TV for Freesat and it worked off the same orientation as the Sky?

Yeah in effect thats right. We already had a single cable running down the side of the house back from when we had regular sky. So I just put f plugs onto each end of that and plugged it into one of the spare sockets on the octo lnb and the other end into the TV.

5 sockets are taken up in total, one for free sat, two for sky+ in one room and two for sky+HD in the other. Swapping the LNBs over was fairly straight foward. I had to wrap some electrical tape round the new one so that it was thick enough to be clamped by the existing dish arm but other than that it fit fine.

I got the new LNB from the big auction site and it was £20 cheaper than any of the web retailers I looked at.

I should probably add that I don't have any previous experience of doing this sort of thing before. It was quite easy to learn. The only hicup I had was with connecting the F-Plus to the ends of the coaxial cable. I now know it's important to get the correct size for the cable and to make sure all of the metal strand bits just below the rubber layer are tucked back out of the way properly.

Cheers for that mate.
Got my boy a LG with built in Freesat HD for xmas and at the mo it's only rigged with the built in freeview. Now I know this I'll be able to set up his Freesat. :)
