Just like SImon has pointed out, far too many people just recommend sets blindly even though they have no idea about the various models in the range and what are actually the best ones.

Samsungs certainly arn't top end :p Their latest screens are very detailed, but are about £1400 for a 40inch LED set which is quite frankly ridiculous. They have loads of silly internet and usb stick type features with the main plus points pushed by the manufacturer being their lower power consumption, reduced weight, and how thin they are, with the ultimate picture qulaity lacking, especially with the edge LEDs. The perfect car comparison for these sets is.......................... Golf Bluemotion :D:D:D
 
I've had the Toshiba for a couple of months now and I'm very happy with it. Works well with skyhd or blu-ray and standard def tv looks quite good upscaled.

*edit* Actually the model I had was the RV555. Not sure what the difference is between the two.

I've been looking at a few Panasonic TXP42's in shops and they always seem a bit dull brightness wise compared to other sets on display. Is this likely to be a simple setup issue?

Well plasmas are more natural compared to LCDs, thus in shops LCDs have that 'OMG SOOO BRIGHT MY EYYYES' effect. Plus LCDs are also better in bright light which is something most crap tv shops on the High St have.

But you are correct in thinking it will most likely be a setup issue, as once you get a plasma home and setup, it will look excellent. Most shops have the settings soo far from accurate it is useless to compare unless you know how to get the picture a bit more accurate.

It's annoying choosing tvs, but don't worry about the panasonic plasma looking dull in the shop, I would still take it over the LCDs at double the price. A natural and accurate picture might take some time to get used to if you are coming from garing LCDs though.
 
i find plasmas do tend te be duller, and the picture seems soft, pan Tv's are realy nice piece's of kit tho, and much nicer to use than toshibas or samsungs, they also sound better.

id definatly recomend the x10 series, we've been told that there getting short on supply aswell due to being so popular.
 
I used to have the PZ60 panny and it was an excellent bit of kit, I would imagine the newer models are a continuation of that. In plasma terms, only the pioneer kuro's were better.
 
Seriously, Panasonic is where its at unless you have the money to go crazy you're just not going to get a better set. I scream in agony when people tell me they've bought a Samsung or Sony when for the same money or less you could have a Panny which is better in almost every way.

But they are so thin hence must be better right? :)

42inch G10 for around £800 would be my choice, I know it's over the budget possibly compared to the rest, and too big, but I don't care, it's a good tv :)
 
Just picked up a Panasonic 37" today myself. It seems very good quality. I went for a 1080p LCD instead of one of their plasmas though.

How much is the LCD V10, not looked at those ones before?

edit - just checked, pushing a grand for a 37inch lcd, I know they are very good but still that's a lot of cash in comparison.

its but they are lovely, they also have Viera cast for internet conection, so you can look at picasa, you tube or eurosport, plus others intime.

Sorry but I think the Panasonic LCDs are incredibly overpriced for what they are. Worse picture, more expensive and what else to you get, a couple of silly features.

It's like choosing to buy a worse car over another significantly better one because you prefer the quality of the cup holders and cigarette lighter :p
