3700x / 3060ti - Just upgrade just the GPU

The 5700x3d is only £180 new. Upgrading from a 3700x he may as well get the bester cpu
Is it? I've only seen it at £240-250, and just looked again and OCUK sell it for £210 plus postage, I'm guessing this is ***elsewhere*** or a competitor that I've not heard of? As I check the obvious rival, and it's £232 currently.
Damn, that's a blown my mind a bit if I'm honest! I take back my suggestion for a 5800X now then! This is a no brainer if he can get it at that price new from the place you found it!
I see they're around £170 and up second hand ***elsewhere*** though, but people like to do strange pricing sometimes

Overclockers sell them for 210

Once you get to the 100 post I think it is you can link your forum account and you get free postage on orders over £19.99

So when you said £180 new, is that still the case elsewhere then or was this for limited time, at that time? That is an amazing deal regardless, and £210 is still decent.
The OP definitely just needs to jump on that or find one second hand for an even greater saving to put towards their new GPU :)

Side note to the Moderator who edited my post, I'm sorry I didn't realise mentioning the auction place and it's rival company weren't allowed, I thought it was just rival PC specific companies such as the one I didn't name. My bad.

Thanks for all the replies, gonna wait hopefully for the 5070ti to hopefully come down in price by the end of the year
I am tempted by the 5070 to save money but the 12Gb VRAM puts me off

As for the CPU for the small gains at 4K I'd prob wait until Zen 6 is released and possibly then jump on the new platform

At the moment I'm happy with the peformance of my gaming so not in a hurry other than spendyitis when you've not bought a new toy since Christmas :p

In 1080p & 1440p deffo, but 4K after looking at YT gaming benchmarks it only boosts your around 3 to 4 frames

not a chance, 3000 to 5000 would a big leap in performance, the X3D was again a good leap in performance

you have to look at the 1% low, that is where an older CPU will struggle, also remember if you game at 4k with DLSS are actually at 1440/1080/720 depending on the DLSS level

Last year you could pick up a 5700X3D on import for just over 100 quid but it seems they’ve stopped much of the production as the price has jumped to over £200 now so it’s not really worth it.

Crazy! Secondhand at £170 would be worth it still I think?

And that's ignoring games which heavily favour the CPU, and there are plenty that do.

Citing "youtube videos" from random people isn't much help, especially when you're not actually providing any sources.

People seem to forget that the 3000 series was actually a good chunk slower in gaming than the Intel 9900K from back in 2018, aka 7 years ago. AM4 as a platform might have advanced way beyond what that CPU was capable of but it absolutely did not magically change the performance of the 3000 or earlier chips.

Definitely don’t get a GPU with 12gigs of VRAM. It’s just not worth it.

Either wait for Nvidia to increase the VRAM to 16gigs as a minimum or buy AMD.

I’d definitely consider a CPU upgrade if a cheap offer came up for a 5700X3D or 5700X if you aren’t going to spend the money on a GPU now. It just makes the upgrade less of a one time large purchase.

Up to you though.

I have had no issues playing any game at max settings with 4K DLSS with or without frame generation, with a 12GB card? The only games I don't play are sports, RTS, and Final Fantasy?
However, in the future it 'might' be an issue I suppose?
If I was buying a secondhand GPU, I definitely wouldn't consider this a risk currently, or for awhile...

8gb is no now days, 12gb should be good, but if your going 4k I would be looking for a 16gb.

If your looking at 5070 sort of money a 9070 is a very good 16gb option

If you're tempted by secondhand, I would 'risk' a 12GB if the price is right, however I definitely agree with the latter, that a 9070 is a very good choice new!

If you looking at second hand the 9070 is still the best choice I literally grabbed one from BGrade on Monday(I think it was) for £430

9070 nitro+

Wow, that's a good shout, I didn't even think people would be selling them secondhand/returning them yet!
I'm in total agreement with you on that basis then!

Wow... yeah! I was tempted when they were about £130, but I wouldn't bother at £200+
Entry level AM5 would be better value, especially if you can offload your current setup.

7500f from a far away land still doesn't seem a bad shout though

The 7500F chips are still pretty good value but even those we’re seeing better prices last year when I bought one.
