So the pc is built and everything is in order. But I'm struggling with this chip and its probably why I'm considering going back to Intel.

I'm not a computer wizz but I have a general sense of what I'm doing. But they'll be times the system will run for ages, no issues yada yada. But then it'll shut off, cpu error light on my m450 tomahawk shows up.. Repeat process of flashing etc.

Not sure it's the chip or mono but I've ot the subject in the cpu tab.

Idel temps on bios seem high along with stock voltage like 1.45

Is anyone else struggling. Or least solved this damn issue with the cpu randomly not being detected etc.

Yes it's sat correctly

Assuming you have a healthy windows install and hard disk, have tried any other available bioses already (including the initial ryzen beta) and have the 7th July release chipset drivers installed then - I'd say it sounds like a grounding/power issue.

Start by unplugging EVERYTHING you don't need to get into windows - USB headers, add in cards, front panel audio, extra hard disks and optical drives. Literally everything except gfx, mouse, keyboard, boot drive. If that solves it plug things back in one at a time until the problem shows up again.

If that doesn't solve it then try pulling the board and running it outside the case - on top of your motherboard box is ideal (NOT on an anti static bag).

Still not fixed then youll have to try a different power supply if you have one (incompatible PSUs are a thing sometimes).

Good luck! :)

Yeah I'm struggling as well to get my rig running stable.
I'm experiencing some pretty random BSODs which is playing absolute havoc with my RAID rebuilding/syncing. :(

I reckon these latest BIOS updates are rushed and as buggy as hell, I feel like a damn beta tester.

Have you tried the latest V19 BIOS update via m-flash in the BIOS??

Also apparently disabling hibernate might help:

Have you tried this new beta BIOS:

[MSI] B450 Tomahawk Update
renderTimingPixel.png

Hello everyone,

We understand many of you have had issues booting and flashing the Beta BIOS for various motherboards, especially in the B450 line. As a PC builder myself, I understand what it is like to have spent money on expensive components and not be able to use them. This is frustrating to everyone including us, even more so when our test boards are playing nicely making it hard to replicate these problems. I personally apologize for the lack of communication regarding fixes for these issues. This was mostly the case because up until now there has not been much information of substance that we can provide to you. Trust me when I say this subreddit and social media avenues are monitored daily and your issues are being passed along to our engineering team.

Our BIOS team is working very hard to release stable BIOS versions for all motherboards compatible with Ryzen 3rd gen processors. Please understand that this is no easy task especially for so many models, and is certainly not as simple as copy/pasting code. We estimate that new BIOS with the new AGESA will be released closer to the end of this month for most board models.

It is clear that the largest community concern at this time is for the B450 Tomahawk. Our BIOS team has provided another Beta BIOS v.191 for the B450 Tomahawk which is still undergoing testing. As a disclaimer, this is still a work in progress so some features like XMP may not be working correctly with some RAM models and stability is not 100% guaranteed. So far from our testing, we were able to boot fine with this version (though the same could be said for the previous one) using an AMD RYZEN 5 3600 but YMMV. This is definitely not the final version so any feedback is greatly appreciated. Hopefully more of you are able to at least boot your systems with this.

IF YOUR B450 TOMAHAWK IS BOOTING FINE WITH THE PREVIOUS v18 BIOS, DO NOT UPDATE TO THIS ONE! (just to be on the safe side)

EDIT:

Here is a .zip version if you do not have a way to extract .7z files

HOW TO use Flash BIOS Button

Pro Tips:

  • Unplug the 24pin power cable from the motherboard and remove the CMOS battery from the motherboard for about 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, reinstall the CMOS battery and reconnect the 24pin power cable and CPU power cable.

  • Make sure your USB Flash Drive is formatted to FAT32.

  • Make sure to extract the contents of the B450 TOMAHAWK.7z file from the download, and rename the extracted file E7C02AMS.191 to MSI.ROM

  • Place the MSI.ROM file in the root directory for your FAT32 formatted USB Flash Drive.

  • Make sure you connect the USB Flash Drive to the correct Flashback USB port on the motherboard. Then press the Flashback button.
*Though it sounds like wizardry to me, some users here have had successful boots by not connecting the RESET switch from their case to the motherboard. It is worth a shot as well.

Again, this is still a Work In Progress. So please report any issues you run into with this release. Thanks you all for your patience and support!

I have the latest bios before the new beta. Its baffling though because it can work for hours on end or browsing. As soon as something demanding kicks in, it goes crazy. I've not touched any cpu settings either.

Have you monitored temperatures? If it's experiencing issues when under load, then maybe your CPU is overheating.

Temps are high even at idle tbh but that appears normal.

I have stock cooler, Arctic paste, 3 140mm fans pulling air into the case and 1 exhaust fan so it's not like I haven't got cooling.

My 3600 idles at 40-50C and it's even hit 60C a few times just web browsing! A gaming session will usually take it up to around 78C and that's with an Alpenfohn Matterhorn cooler and a thin layer of Arctic MX-4 paste.... I dread to think what temps would be like with the stock cooler!

My case also has 3x120mm intake fans and 2x120mm exhaust fans.

ive not read much on the CPU temps, but that seems very high for a 3600, my 1700 idles around 30c. Saying that, i dont think 78c should be causing it to crash. id certainly try re seating the cooler and re applying thermal paste.

Not that I am gonna give any useful tip to solve your issue here but imo RMA and grab a 9900k at 400 with a good z390. All of this frustration and time you’re spending is largely worth the premium.

Not tried new bios but power down.. Power on nothing, flash bios... But it flashes for maybe 2 seconds then restarts. Now can go into Windows, working OK, load the sims 4 up, crash, mobo cpu light error shows, then goes, resets, Windows opens OK, now working alright.

I wanna say it's a Windows error too but the motherboard wouldn't error up like that surely.
