3700x or i7 9700K?

I hear the Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite and ASUS AM4 TUF Gaming X570-Plus Wifi are good upper mid ranged motherboards.
If you want a cheaper alternative and don't mind losing PCIE4, the MSI Tomahawk B450 MAX has out of the box support for the Ryzen 3000 series.

With the 3700x get good decent RAM. 8-pack 3600 would be ideal. https://www.overclockers.co.uk/team...3600mhz-dual-channel-kit-black-my-08q-tg.html
It's approx. £120 and overclocks well. Tested Latencies: CL 16-16-16-36 Hopefully you can get IF 1900 and the RAM OC'ed 3800. My 3600 went to 3800 CL 16-16-16-36 at the stock 1.35 volts. That should net you decent performance. Then if you need every little bit, tighten the timings and increase the RAM voltage.

Hi sorry for the noob Question , but what does IF 1900 mean ?

Hi sorry for the noob Question , but what does IF 1900 mean ?

Infinity Fabric is what allows the CPU cores to connect to other CPU cores and storage like the RAM for example. The fastest Infinity Fabric speed most people get is 1900. Because the infinity fabric is the coherency method and RAM is a part of the coherency storage. Both need to run at a 1:1 ratio or there could be performance issues. A faster IF is better for performance.

The RAM speed can be increased with faster IF speeds, stock RAM is 3200 but if IF is increased to 1900, then RAM can be increased to 3800. This maintains the 1:1 ratio between RAM and IF. RAM and IF frequency are the same at 1900MHz. As RAM is double data rate, we usually refer to 1900MHz RAM as DDR4 3800.

I am playing games just fine on a 3600. I think the 3rd gen Ryzen is a large step up to intel or more importantly Ryzen 2nd gen. I think a 3700x will done you fine for years.

I know that the pass mark benchmark takes liking like productivity benchmarks into account but the 9700x scores 17000 and the 3700x scores 24000. A big difference. Also some games would use the productivity of the Ryzen eg. Total war hammer 2 mortal empires for the term times. So you should only really go with Intel at the moment if you need high FPS for shooters and are cpu bottlenecked ie. unless you have a 2080Ti then that isn’t an issue.

I would get the 3700x.

The 9700 having no HT will grow older far quicker than a 3700 or 9900k will.
Yes i know it has 8 real cores/threads and it can overclock but its going to struggle quicker as software bloats more - look at the 7700k...

The HT enabled 9 core chips simply have more grunt, although that is not always used its better to have it in reserve than being stuck with a limited amount of performance.
