Hi,

I'm probably missing the obvious here - but is the only different between an amd 3700x and 3800x retail kit a 0.1ghz max turbo clock speed? Seems a minor difference for almost £100 extra?

Was originally thinking of going for a 3900x, but with availability low to none, and prices going up looking at an 8 core instead.

Thanks.

And a 300MHz base clock. From user reports it seems like all parts of the package are binned as well so the mem controller should be better with higher speed low latency RAM.

I am actually regretting going for 3700x ( cause now pbo does better, than allcore oc)- went for a cheaper one hoping to get lucky and have allcore 4.4GHz (4375 realistically is sane limit on mine) , but pbo boosts some cores to 4.5GHz.While tested with division 2 bench , pbo was getting 0.5-1.5 % better results vs allcore.

Thanks all - just watched that vid too. 3800x slightly better binned (supposedly) and generally considered not worth the difference unless you want the best possible 8 core for OC?

My intel 3770k is running 4.4k all core quite happily, so I think it all boils down to how much difference in my mixed usage I'll get going from 4 to 8 core, and if I need all the newer options. :)

The motherboard choices are the next biggie. :D

The 3700X is definetly the way to go. Even at their launch prices it wasn't worth the extra for the 3800X, but the extra £20 that's been knocked off the former already makes it a no-brainer.

You do realise Ryzen 3000 4.4GHz is around 5.4GHz of 3770k :D ?

Clearly trying to fill every price point has just annoyed the enthusiasts. We could have had just 4 sku's. At least I'd know what to buy.

The 3600 and 3700X are arguably the best bang for buck. Just pick one of those, and be happy. :)

I've gone from that very cpu to a 3700X on a X470 Strix F and have to say its a hell of a jump going from 4/8 to 8/16 even with the lower core clocks the IPC improvements over a what 6 year old 3770K is massive. My system was never slow in my eyes but even I swear the system is now even more responsive and being able to game and stream easily is the biggest selling point for me.

Just ordered a 3700x and asrock taichi board. More cores would have been nice for using VMs and such - but will wait and see how the 3950x turns out now, and upgrade to that if needs be.

3600, 3700x and 3900x (and eventually 3950x) are the chips anyone should be considering in all honesty. The 3600x and 3800x seem pretty pointless as their counterparts (3600 and 3700x) are 99% the same for quite the big difference in price.

I wonder if you are right now... But wrong when they improve the microcode and bios.....
