Going to hit my cpu with a hammer soon, Dont have massive issues with performance but my temps could be a lot better and i feel that im not getting the best out of my loop.

One quick question though Coollab paste LP vs LU which is best for die to ihs?

I think it was Ultra I used currently sitting at 29-33c on the cores, hits 67 load (H100i), have ultra on the die/cpu interface

Don't hammer it, use a razor like a pro. I did a guide can find you a link if you'd like, it's on another forum though....

Don't use a knife, I did my 3770k around 2 months ago in a vice with a hammer.

Was my first time de-lidding anything and went smooth as silk.

Too much risk when using a knife.

hammer it , not razor.

Follow a trusted guide, only tricky part is getting a good vice to hold the IHS

Thinking of hitting mine with a hammer, be cheaper than going to X99 if it works ok. Shame though when you have to resort to this on a k chip sold for it's oc potential.

Honestly DO NOT RAZER IT, your very likely to hit cpu componants or dig into the silicon destroying the CPU - HAMMER IT, its quick, and safer.

i found it to be risky,if i were to do it again id choose the hammer/vice method,looks far simpler

Except its a long drawn out process you do blind, you cannot see whats underneath or how near stuff you are, doing it for the 1st time is RISKY, hammer method is safer, you don't do anything 'blind'...........the only thing I suggest is google a pic of the die under neath the IHS and make sure the long edge is the same direction to which you hit the hammer.......this gives more clearence for the IHS to move and pop up before even contacting the CPU die.

I did mine really easy and now get 30c/67c temps idle load.

I spent about an hour hitting my 3770k from various angles with a hammer (also tried the method with using the vice to "push" the IHS off) and got nowhere.

It took about five minutes with a razor.

Definitely conflicting methods here. I would feel more comfortable with the razor option if I had to choose right now.

It's worth doing any way you do it. Hoping that the 5930k will be better. Has anyone confirmed that they're soldered?
