My Amd 3800 Dual Core is already overheating with a stock air cooled when running fear. Not even started to oc yet all running standard current temp measured in bios 52-56 C. So I will have to look at a better CPU cooler before I do anything else.
I notice the Zalman air cooled soloution says its better than some water cooled systems is this true? or should I go for a water block rad and pump.
Or is it worth investing in a full Kit if so which one. Ps I ant got £500 for a posh thermal kit.

Tbh, the stock cooler shouldnt be that bad. Open up your PC and check for build up of dust. If its all clean, then its most likely not making good contact. Take it off, and reseat it with some AS5, see what temps you get :)

Erm 52-56C in the bios is scary

Considering in the bios it's not even processing anything...

Something wrong with the heatsink by the sounds of it... perhaps re-seating as benjo said or mybe it's got a concave base?

yes the bios is, its around 50% load.

thissubject has been done so many times.
For the overheating 3800x2.
Try reseating it to get better contact. If that doesnt work then your 3800 is like mine.

hmm why is bios at 50% whats it doing?

Considering my BIOS temps drop to about 20-25C at stock volt (1.5v) and speed (2000mhz) and idle in windows with Cool'n'Quiet at 800mhz at 1.3Volts is about 35C?

Loading the BIOS screen does not alow the CPU to go into the low power states (same as DOS really) so the cpu is using all processing power to redraw the screen. The BIOS temps should be within 3-5C of the max temp with both cores going 100%
