As a newbie to overclocking I was just wondering if I could get some assistance overclocking please peeps. I Have an Asus A8N Sli Deluxe Mobo 2gb 3200 Geil Value Ram and an A64 X2 3800 @ stock. Im wondering is it possible to reach 2.4ghz with this chip at stock voltages? What settings in my bios will need changing to achieve this?

Cheers

sounds great! I dual boot vista and xp so I will have to stick at 1.4v. Could you give me an idea of what settings to change in my bios? sorry for the 50 questions im just new to overclocking my CPU. Cheers

Cheers for that mate thats just what I needed.

2Gb DDR400 PC3200 GeIL Value Dual Channel kit. With blue aluminium heatspreaders, rated 3-4-4-8

Thats the memory I have if that helps. The timings are at 3-3-3-8 at the moment though.

Cheers

I hit 2.4ghz no problem :) its been stable for 8 hours of orthos. I hit it at stock voltage (1.35v) and HT Link is 1200. Plus the memory is at 1T still. Im well chuffed. :D

Plus after 8 hours of orthos its maxing out at 59c is that acceptable? Im gunna try improving airflow in the case. Plus its on the stock cooler with AS5.

Validation on CPUZ doesnt seem to work. Keeps saying the file is invalid or corrupt. Nah havent tried 250 FSB yet. Just worried im gunna do something wrong and fry the chip :D

Looks fine to me, you're getting the exact same overclock im running right now, with the same ram too.

Mine boots at 2.6 with stock volts, but doesnt last long, lasted a few weeks at 2.5 then BSOD'd for no reason, so i dropped it back to 2.4 and left it like that, and its been that way since the end of last year. I get around he same load temps aswell.

Dont worry about hurting your chip with clocks, the only thing that'll kill it is volts, and maybe heat.

You running yours at 1.4v mate? I think the chip is 1.35v stock isnt it?

With some help off some of the regulars here I managed to get my 939 3800 to run at this..

Check out this thread, it's only 2 pages so shouldn't be hard to find..got help from El Jimben on my o/c problem..couldn't go faster than 2.4 as well but he sorted it for me!

Im gunna aim for 2.6 next I think. Gunna leave it a few days and make sure its ok at 2.4 first though. Nice speeds though mate :)

Mine's running at stock, so yes 1.35v, sorry.

Ah ive got mine set at 1.4v atm. Thing is the BIOS has auto defaulted to 1.4v since i bought the chip a few months back. Ive had no problems so thought id leave it at 1.4v :)

I just doubled checked my volts, and according to CPU-Z 134 my volts are at 1.30v... not sure if CPU-Z is having me on or not, and i cant be bothered heading into the bios to check.... i know Cool and Quiet is switched off, so that shouldnt be the reason.

EDIT: Just downloaded CPU-Z 140 and thats reporting my volts as 1.31v.

Does it always read the voltage correctly? Its reading 1.38 in my asus monitoring software and 1.4 in cpu-z.
