I've just got my new 3870 X2 card and I'm not sure what power connectors it needs. There is a 8 slot whole and a 6 slot one. Do I need one, both or neither?
Thanks

It needs a 6-pin connector in the 6-pin socket and a 6- or 8-pin connector in the 8-pin socket. It's fool-proofed, you can't go wrong if you populate both sockets.

Just make sure that you DON'T use the 8pin cable that is for the motherboard otherwise you will majorly b0rk your shiney new X2. The X2 needs two power cables in though, does your PSU have an 8pin PCI-E connector? Or does it have 2 6pin PCI-E Connectors.

Plug the 8 pin and 6 pin in.
If you're PSU doesn't have an 8pin - buy another, you need a decent one to run this card.

Had someone to chat to a while back, trying to run 2 of these in their Hewlet Packard PC with the stock manufacturers PSU and using Molex-PCI-ex connectors.
I do hope it hasn't burnt his house down yet.
