As the titlte says, is there any point upgrdaing my 3870x2?

The rest of my system is as per my sig and my monitor is 1680x1050.

I was thinking of 4870, a 4890 or a 4870x2. Shold I just wait another year or so? Would I see a difference in games? I'm getting about 18.5k to 19+k in 3dmark06 depending on the CPU overclock.

Is everything performing as you would like?

If so then no need to upgrade :)

A single 4870 is about the same speed as the 3870X2 in games consistantly performing, so one of the other cards would be faster again, it depends on what you're after!.

The 3870x2 still pops in some benchmarks of never cards and sometimes has some ok average frame rates. The thing that kills the 3870x2 is the minimum frame rates meaning that games will run great at times and then slow down in places.

I would say sell it and get a 4890 or if thats too expensive, get a GTX 260

Thanks guys for all your replies. Sorry, I fully intended to stay on-line but the better half had other plans for me this afternoon!

So, games I play? Right now I'm playing Empire Total War, which can get pretty intense, graphically, when large armies clash. But I also play Fallout 3, Mass Effect and I have always intended to get GTAIV and Far Cry 2.

Does my system play them well? Yes, but possibly not as well as it could, I'm always playing a few notches below the top settings.

I'd be looking at £200 ish either new for the 4870-4890, or for something a bit beefier from the MM like the 4870x2 or similar nvidea cards. Though I have been completely out of the loop on nvidea and don't really know what's what anymore - some reading to do there.

Someone mentioned new benchmarks with the 3870x2 in them, it would be interesting to see them.

I don't think it's worth you upgrading, until the next-gen DX11 cards come out.

as above. while the prices of the 4890/4870x2 have dropped to a really sweet spot its prolli better waiting for the next batch of cards to hit.

a 4870 just isnt worth the upgrade for you as it is about the same as your 3870x2. however you would see better framerates in games with poor crossfire support. a 4890 would be an increase but it probably wouldnt amaze you unless you got one of the 1ghz models that everyone is making. I was considering putting 2 4870x2s in my rig for £500ish but i would really prefair 1 card that offers the same kind of performance and it looks like the 5850x2/5870x2 will probably offer close to that. i love the idea of lower power 40nm parts too :)

basicly for myself i'm going to see what the market brings. if the new stuff aint that impressive i'll still be able to pick up the x2s but prolli closer to £150 each :D

Not at this time, nor would it be worth getting any of them at the release prices.

If it's all workin ok, I wouldn't bother. See if you can overclock the hardware some more. :)
