Hi Folks,

I originally built my rig with dual 3870X2's last April. One had to be RMA'd because of a faulty fan as it was refunded rather than replaced, which has left me with a slightly underpowered system for gaming on my 1080P TV.

If I was to replace the single 3870X2 with a single card today that would be roughly equal in power to the dual 3870X2's, what card would it be?

I am not fussy about it being ATI or NVIDIA.

Thanks in advance!

kD.

A single 4870X2 or GTX 295 should do the trick. They wil also be more likely to scale well (or at all) and won't suffer from Microstutter in the way that Quadfire 3870X2 would.

Cheapest single card with comprable performance is probably the 4850x2 2GB which comes in around £260. A bit overpriced IMO though considering you can get a pair of GTS250s for under £200, although obviously you need an SLI board for that.

A single 4850 is comparable to a 3870 X2... better in many cases. A 4850 X2 is probably almost 2x more powerful or more with AA applied.

when i had my 3870X2 i did a little bench test with my mate who had a 4850. i would say that they are comparable to each other. although the 4850 out performs in some tests.

i will add though that i get a worse 3DMark score with my 4870 than my old 3870X2. not by much, only about 300
