Well i just managed to get one of these cards for a bargain price of £90 after killing my 4870 and WOW its fantastic.. I get almost 19K in 3DMark06 and Almost 9K in Vantage.. Just been offered another one to Crossfire it for the same price so gonna go for it. Just gotta get a better PSU but thats not an issue..

I know i probably could have got a couple of 4830's for that money and they wouldnt have used as much power but should get some excellent results from a pair and they will last me for a long while...

Doubtful on the pair; ATi's quadfire scaling wasn't very good and still isn't even for the 4870X2.

What mobo you using?

If it's an X38, P45 or X48 then i'd consider adding a standard 3870XT.

As said quad xfire wasn't that astonishing - tri-crossfire scaling seemed to be the sweetspot by still offering a fairly decent FPS boost.

Yeah i though that but struggling to find a 3870 with DDR3... I dont know if mixing DDR3 and 4 would make a difference tho...

Nice cards and good performance, nice to read about. Just goes to show that you don't have to have the most recent top end cards to run great games at high res with all the bells and whistles.

Was thinking of running my 4870 with my 4870X2, might produce more hassles than its worth though.

hmm I have a 3870 with ddr3 keep an eye out for the gygabyte ultra durable. Also mixing ddr4 and 3 is no issue, I have mixed 3870xt ddr4 with the 3870 ddr3 and also the 3850 with great sucess.

Ive still got a Asus 3870x2TOP on top of my wardrobe since moving to a 280gtx, i got tired of driver crashes and really low dips in fps in even normal games like css etc at 1920x1200 was dipping in the low 30s on css maxed out my 8800ultra didn't even do that!!

but still anyone wants one for 90 quid del its here hehe!!!!

Im still using mine ,(3870X2) its been a great card, i am trying to get a 295gtx at the right price, was going for the 4870X2 but decided to spend a little more on the Nvidia

My old 3870X2 blows my GTX280 away in 3DMark 06 but the roles are reversed in Vantage. For £90 a 3870X2 is a good buy, I'm keeping mine as a backup for now.

In 3DMark 06 it's 14,488 for the GTX280 and 15,665 for the 3870X2, in Vantage it's 13,171 for the GTX280 v 7,756 for the 3870X2.

na mine wasn't anywhere near my 280gtx only had the 3870x2 for 3 months i would have sent it back if i could have!! out of all the gfx cards that ive bought over the last 10 years its by far the dodgiest and worst!

Well to save me some cash i think i am going to go for a 3870 to pair with the x2. Hopefully i can get one for about £50 and it will also save me on buying a new PSU.
