im going to build my gf a pc at the end of the month and i haven't been in the "Scene" for quite some time now.. i have built this in the basket

what she uses her pc for

facebook/picasa/youtube/movies/browsing music etc etc and she also likes to play an odd game or two.. currently she plays sims 3 at my place so she needs something that will run sims 3 no problems - i am leaving 80 quid for a used gpu from MM and keyboard thats why they are not in the basket.

any help appreciated! i really am not sure if the system is good enough :) shes not fuzed about the case style(surprised for a girl?! :D ) but it needs to fit at least 5850 so i have no problems with space

thanks!

thanks, and intel is the way to go for this budget? as we dont mind if its amd if the cpu is more powerful - looking at reviews 620 doesn't look that good and i wont be overclocking her system either

Intel is indeed the way to go as you are going to get a add-in GFX card, if you had a really tight budget and couldnt afford a GFX card of reasonable power, then a AMD Llano setup which has a very good built-in GFX core would then be ideal.

Its a good thing this rig isnt for gaming or else you'd really struggle. If i was you i'd look at ****** and other sites to drive down the price.

I'd go for a llano, integrated graphics which would be fine for the sims etc

fine as in running at high/medium mix at 1080p? i do think amd is more bang for buck but i cant see any older generation cpu's at ocuk sadly :S

Llano is good for a budget gaming system, but as you're setting aside ~£80 for a dedicated GPU that'll give much better performance :)
[I doubt you'd even need to spend that much for this sort of use]

that will be my max budget maybe even less since i have to get a keyboard for her too.. but it should get a good gpu for her use.. its just that im worried the cpu wont be up to scratch at stock speeds :o

In that case i'd recommend the overclockers storr for all parts, i mean they do offer the cheapest parts!

mate i know ;) but im saving 20quid on next day delivery which works out about the same when you add saving from other shops.. so logically i have no reason not to shop here + i have been shopping here for ages and i know the service is perfect

Well considering the budget I think it's the best you can get, this compares it to the i3 2100 [which is twice the price] and in the gaming benchmarks the Pentium still does pretty well - remember you only mention Sims, which I don't think it'll have a problem with

The 620 is pretty much the same as an E8400 @ stock. (Remember you can't overclock the G620.)

Combined with an HD 5850 it should make a decent budget gaming machine.

I assume you have an OS?

Yes os is covered :-) i have anamd [email protected] and 5850 yet sims 3 get some slow downs at 1440x900.. :O thats maxed out tho! I was a bit surprised at the fps but yeah my budget pc struggles a bit so i wouldnt be surprised if it wont run maxed out at 1080p

so here is how it currently stands..

now instead of getting a used gpu im going to get a used/smaller monitor - she thinks my 19" is big enough so no need for 22" in my eyes.. does everything work together just to double check?! also im not sure if the gpu will actually fit the case and if the case is good?
