hola, ok i am having the jump moving to a new CPU currently using a Q6600 and other system is a phenom 9850

i was looking at a 3930k and the price tag is just over £400

but then i checked some benchmarks for a 950....and there doesnt seem to be a massive difference in performance, but about £200 in price.

have i missed something?!

i am willing to spend £400 on a CPU...but only if necessary.

when looking it just did not seem worth the extra price.

heavy PC user, with heavy gamer also.

thanks rich

for gaming there is probably very little difference, but then there would also be very little difference between a 2500k or 3570k which would be newer and cheaper than a 950 setup

if you do go X79 you could go with a 3820, you will be able to overclock to 4.5ghz +
and you'll also be set to enable Ivybridge-E when that comes out (which will have 8 core desktop chips as well)

X79 will give you the biggest chance at longevity at this point

brill tyvm for the input andy.

ok so the higher/highest end CPU's are more for raw power, and a system heavy loaded?

i assume the difference would only be noted after a while of a ongoing heavy system processing? (only thing i can related to this, is video processing)

ok yeah the 2500k - £150 i5...mmm ok but without the E advantage

the 3570k seems high end i5, but with no GPU processing but again thats a more reasonable £150

the 40% GPU bonus is that irreverent with this, these days? running of course decent level graphics card (when i buy 1) and probs turn that into SLI.

the 3820 is yes £100 more, but with sandybridge-e that looks well worth it...

interestingly i have just watched a youtube and it was saying a lot of benchmarks areant correct for some of these intel's, and in SOME instances the FX 8350 wipes the floor with these?!?!

i was about to lay my money for the 3820...but now back to good old AMD possibly, i was venting towards i7 as i thought they where untouchable in the current market.

I'm not sure where that shows the 8350 'clearing out' the 3570k- that is only a single video, and I can show you a lot more that show the 3570k beating the 8350 in games. Remember that Razetheworld video was done with Xsplit streaming at the same time- which is where the 8350 has an advantage. In most games (which can't utilise 8 cores) the 3570k will be faster. Just ask most people on these forums and you'll see.

unless your a heavy video editor/encoder or a benchmark addict id go for a z77 and 3770k,its plenty power for gaming and anything else

save yourself some money over x79 but its up to you

thanks for the reply, ok clearing out, probs a bit OTT.

and yes many other reviews not showing that, but thats why i mentioned it as many others are showing different results.

there generally will be a lot of programs running in the background whilst gaming.
(i say lots, 4, mainly firefox usually with 50+ tabs)

between the 3820 with sandybridge-e coming into effect and the 3770k with DMI.

do they just both have strengths in different areas? or which is going to give me more performance?

and i take it i will notice the -£100 drop between that and other CPU's mentioned in this thread.

the 40% GPU bonus is that irreverent with this, these days? running of course decent level graphics card (when i buy 1) and probs turn that into SLI.

also is that relevant still?

Good choice, should offer solid performance for some time yet (though I am debating whether to upgrade to aswell just to satisfy my upgrade itch :))

mmmmm u see thats the issue. where do u go or what do u play with next.

whats on your mine to upgrade?!

also FYI i have stuck with a low amount of ram for the next 60 days, then gonna boost it.

ah...actually quick thoughts...

i have a Noctua NH-U12P but i think im going to leave stock fan on it for now.

and also a Palit GeForce GTX 460 (NE5X460SF1102) i managed to brake a fin on the fan. i have been tempted to water cool it, but simply unsure. dont think i'll be buying a new GPU in the next 12 months possibly SLI if again i get another 2nd hand off ebay same way i bought this.

Unless you can get a 460 block cheaply, it isn't really worth the cost to watercool a lower end card now. SLI could be an option, though you will probably run into Vram limitations (especially if it is a 768mb model)
