Hello, just a quick question, are 3Com Gigabit Switches any good? I'm looking at buying an 8-port version, but didnt know if they are worth it. Oh, and its simply to be used on my home network, the most work it will have to do is stream some hi-def video files.

Thanks

I've got a 3Com 8 port Gigabit switch here and it does the job. I paid a slight premium for it over the usual mainstream suppliers (Netgear etc).

HP Would be my brand of choice, but 3Com are pretty decent too.

TBH they will all perform just about 99% the same anyway, but I dislike Netgear/Linksys for their poor reliability (in my experience).

HP also has the lifetime warranty in its favour, a metal case an an external PSU that isn't a wall wart.

I use a 19" 3com gigabit 24-port at home, buts it's obvisouly business grade. Although i do also have some 5 and 8 port 3com switches, one did cause me trouble, but for a small home network, i concur that its unlikely to cause you problems.
I would however steer clear of Edimax (local pc shops tend to stock these). I had problems with all 3 switches that i bought.....as with most edimax products i've bought tbh.
