3com problem

Hi all,

I recently switched ISPs to Be broadband. I've got there BeBox (thomson speedtouch 780 wl), but the wireless on it won't reach my room (1 floor up, 3 rooms down). That said the signal will reach the loft (2 floors up).

Anyhow, I purchased a 3com 3crwdr101a-75 to fix this problem (along with a a linksys speedbooster PCI card).

Here is my problem:

The speedtouch actually turned out to be more powerful than the 3com, with the 3 com having almost 1.5 times greater signal/noise ratio (using netstumbler).
I thought the 3com would demolish the BeBox, any ideas why thats not the case?
Can anyone recommend an ADSL 2+ router that has a long range (maybe an SPI firewall as well)?

Also the reason I mentioned my PCI card, although not made for range, does come with a pretty big antenna, and yet my centrino laptop can pickup more AP's than the card. Why is this? Any ideas on a long range PCI card I can buy?

Hopefully I can get this mess sorted within a week, because I've been trailing a 30m bright orange cat5 cable all through the house, and it doesn't look good :(

Thanks in advance everyone.

P.S. I'll probably sell the 3com on OCuk later as well, so keep a look out ;)
