3D crossings

I actually think it's really effective, from one direction.

But who isn't slowing down for pedestrian crossings? If there are people waiting, you stop. They've got poles and lights..

I don't think confusing drivers and trying to get them to see things that aren't there is a good strategy. What happens if someone swerves onto the pavement to avoid hitting these "floating blocks"? Or people getting rear ended because of emergency stops? Or people who just refuse to drive over them because they look like some sort of obstruction in the road? It's guaranteed to have unforeseen and undesirable consequences.

They could use the same effect to make virtual raised crossings, locals would know but you would hope they also knew the risk of people crossing, schools etc.

Round here they'd get filthy within a month and all the effect would be lost.

Here you would probably get people stopping to take selfies as they cross the road. As a motorist the rules regards crossings is very clear not sure why people need to be tricked into abiding by them. The best zebras i have seen are the speed bump ones that's all that's required.

No, why would it, you would have to be special to think it real, and if a someone has their head stuck in their phone, it's not going to make any difference

No, I know it's not possible to have floating blocks so they must be painted :p It also looks weird from the pedestrian's angle.

Plus once they get dirty it will blend in to the road surface and just look flat.

there's a town near me has done something like this for speedbumps, road marked like a speedbump but there's no actual bump there, it's reasonably effective the first time you encounter it but after that you know it's fake and don't slow down.

Because there was a girl on a scooter to the left, and a man approaching from the right as the car crossed the crossing. On a standard zebra I'd have certainly slowed and stopped at it.

I could be getting mixed up what op meant, but I am sure he was on about the design of the crossing, not would you stop if you saw someone next to it

What I meant was the text accompanying the video stated that the design was intended to slow down approaching cars, but in the same video you see a Discovery absolutely hoon past when people were at either side, disproving their theory!
