3D Fuzion 7600GT: unexplainable artifacts/corruption

I'll try wiping my drivers and reinstalling, and I'll reinstall DX9 (if that's possible), but I've tried reinstalling my drivers and as far as I can tell HL2:EP1 doesn't install DX9. But I'll give it a go.

Can't think temperature is a problem. My case is well-ventilated and all CPU/case/GPU temperatures are fine.

Here's what Rivatuner reports at idle:

Core clock \ geometric domain: 651 MHz
Core clock \ shader domain: 651 MHz
Core clock \ ROP domain: 651 MHz
Memory clock: 702 MHz
Core VID, non-dimensional: 2
Core temperature: 47-48C

So far, everything seems normal (I think).

Running rthdribl for a few minutes makes the temperature rise steadily up to 60C and stay there. The clocks don't change at all. I don't get any graphics corruption.

Stop press! Out of scientific interest I installed a no-CD crack for Oblivion and took the DVD out. And guess what? I played it for five minutes with not one problem, whereas before it would screw up well before then. It's too early to say that I've solved the problem, but this seems to support my theory that my power supply isn't good enough. Or, it might just be a coincidence...

THERE I SEE YOUR PROBLEM.

your core is overclocked to 651mhz. stock speed should be 560mhz unless its a pre overclocked card. you need to find out whats being used to set your clock speeds then disable it.

your card is bfg 3dfusion. its stock clocks should be 560 core and 700 ram like mine.

thats why the problem is only on your system. you have something overclocking your card.

do this go into nvidia driver control panel and make sure you disable overclocking. will need the coolbits reg patch installed to allow you to do that.

also in rivatuner you can disable the clock speed overclocking.

your problem has been isolated now and can be resolved VERY easily.

... Of course!

How didn't I see that?

...I feel so stupid. I searched for the 7600GT stock speeds, and I read "560MHz" as "650MHz". And naturally I thought "Well, that looks fine."

...that would explain it.

Argh. Sorry for wasting everyone's time, I really made a mountain out of a molehill.

Well, it should be simple from here. I'm very grateful to everyone for helping out with me, and I'm annoyed I didn't read the numbers more carefully. Ah well.

don;t worry about it. worse mistakes have been made in the past. set it back to stock or lower the overclock and it will be fine.

im enjoying my card. runs GRAW really well. card is far superior to my old 6800nu which was fully unlock and clocked at 390/835. very good value for money card i would say.

Argh... wait... scratch all that. I think I made a typo: my clock speed was actually 561MHz. It's running at that now, and I still get the problems in Oblivion. To make things worse, my no-CD fix seems to not solve things either.

So I'm kinda stuck. I'm going to try reinstalling stuff and restarting. It might be it's actually just a problem in Oblivion, especially since it seems it only appears when a wolf attacks me on my "test" saved game. But then it's a problem I get in other games (though not all).

Well, stay tuned...

check your rivatuner stats again. make sure your clock speeds are fine.

download ati tool and run the artifact tester. best way to find problems out.
