I benchmarked my PC and got on default settings 14600, with a q6600 running @ 3.3, 8ddr ram and a gtx280. but I have see peeps getting much better results with simular spec. I run vista 64 bit os and my mobo is ep45 ds4 gigabyte. any ideas ?

Overclock the GTX280?

Plus it may well depend which drivers you are using.

Also, some people may have faster cpus as well.

Your score looks pretty normal to me.

Thast score looks fine.. I have the same spec, and get a similar score :)

Me and my mate were comparing scores on 3dMark06 earlier. He just got a new i7 920 rig and a GTX275, versus my Q6600 and 8800GTX, there was only 1000 points in it (13000 for me and 14000 for him) However, when we ran 3dMark Vantage he was still making 14000 and my score was all the way down to 8500 :(

So yea, try vantage for a real reflection of those GTX cards.

Also, run vantage with all quality options off in nvidia control panel, switch on anything which increases speed at the cost of quality. Make sure you have all background programs switched off.

People do this to get the max out of the vantage score.

really , and I thought default ment default, why do peeps try and cheat :P

This has being discussed for years. The general consensus is that it is accepted to run 3dmark06 and vantage on performance settings.

At the end of the day people are trying to get the highest scores possible.

Some people go to the trouble of a clean install (lite version) to maximise the speed in windows.

For yourself at home comparing one card with a new one bought, it doesn't really matter so long as the settings are the same on both.

Also, as said already, certain driver releases are better scorers in vantage/3dmark06 and the newest is not always the quickest. When I could be bothered to run benchmarks, I noticed that a new driver could lose me several hundred points.

That's why it is dangerous to compare your results to orb's database.

Well yeah my GFX card is stock and I never change anything in nvidia CPL other than default settings so no cheating.

The mighty Q6600 prevails - 15,300 ;)

That's a damn poor CPU score for 3.8GHz

It wasn't at 3.8Ghz. Vantage reports it wrong. 3.5Ghz was my cpu speed.

And I've noticed that you are running 8.15 drivers versus my 7.12, your on windows 7 (another speed boost) and finally my poor gtx was only running at 702/1512 in that run :P

stop showing off. your q6600 was 400mhz higher than his and your card super clocked as well.

nope only 100mhz and slightly overclocked to 702/1512. I said it wasn;t as per my sig is now. :p

I think i'm going to have to load up my windows 7 64 bit and do a another run at my current gpu clocks tonight now after all this abuse on the forums. :(
