3D moniters/games?

I would be very surprised if the glasses worked correctly at all angles. Its quite likely it would be more immersive as 3d, but its unlikely to make a difference in online play. Offline play i'm sure you could be drawn into the game a lot better. At the end of the day you're still required to wear the glasses which is by far the biggest problem. The question is, would your average developer bother with such a thing?

Not work in online play? I'm sure Star Trek Online could be nice in 3D? :) I suspect it's more down to game style? RTS? Probably no benefit (possibly the opposite). First person type game (not versus)? Probably help/nice.

Would your average developer bother? I suspect it'll soon be so bound into DirectX that they'd hardly have to worry much about it... It's just be available almost as a side effect.

A game is already 3D!

Yes you need some software support to allow it to send out the 3D images (or 2x 2D images) and an appropriate video card to send these images to the screen but a bit of software isn't the same as going back in time and refilming a 2D movie in 3D or remastering it in 3D, chucking all your old bluerays/DVDs and players away and buying new 3D versions which is what is required to get a 3D cinema experience.

Current 3D technology supports pretty much all games because they are already in 3D so you aren't going to have to re buy everything in 3D or even re download it, maybe a small patch at the most if that. As Neil says above, it will probably be in the next DirectX, it will be standard. and I doubt it will take much to make old games work. which is a massive advantage.

Just a qestion rather than creating a new thread...

I have 2 24inch benq's.... would it look pretty good or strange if i bought one 120Hrz monitor for the 3D aspect... would it look stupid or would i need 3x120HRz?

What are you on about? You brought films/movies into this thread (for some reason), and didn't mention anything about converting old media to 3D then, which of course is a fairly tricky & convolute task?

I'm confused? I fail to see what it has to with the OP - Can we just stick to the topic at hand? Games in 3D?

I had 2 plans in making a pc for gaming. My first option was to get dual monitor and good components to run games at a decent fps.
My other one was to get a budget system that can run a good nvidia card and have one 22inch 120hz 3d monitors and nvidia 3d vision...Due to that option still being ridiculously expensive i went for the dual monitor decent fps option.

But i have a friend who does run a lot of his games in 3d and he says it is worth it. I havnt tried it myself cause i dont have time to travel a great distance to see him. But i can take his word for it. I watched a preview of L4D2 with 3d glasses (it was a video of l4d2 made to simulate the real thing) and it was awesome.

I'd imagine for 2D stuff, a single 2D and a single 3D monitor would be fine - eg: your desktop split over two monitors. Then for a 3D application/game, if it were only on the 3D monitor then you'd get the benefit. While the 2D monitor would sit their not really used...?

Yeah i get you... what i should have said was:

Becuase i intend on using eyefinity, would it look silly if the center monitor had 3D while the other 2 were 2D?

I dont think it would work. If you run the game on a single 3d monitor you will get 3d but as soon as you run it on dual monitors it should switch to 2d....but if im wrong yes your right i would look strange and eye sore.

Since you need an nvidia card for the 3d, you won't be able to use ATI's eyefinity :)

or what he said. But i did hear ATI can do some 3d things.

Have no idea I'm afraid. ie: Is it even 3D compatible and how would 3D software handle two of the three monitors not being in 3D? ie: You'd ideally not want to use the 2D monitors when in 3D?

Id rather have this than 3D

How useless would that be in fps games?

I giant bar through your crosshair...
