Just doing some prodding about on the internetz mainly on youtube to do with 3d vision and a Capable card that can solo games with good fps. Most of the Vids seem to have triple monitor 3d setups with SLI 5xx series cards.

SLI doesnt seem to be a option for me "i don't think anyways".
480's Draw more power than i can give, a single card i'm ok with but will it run 1080p games in 3d?

590 will it function on a 700W gold Coolermaster PSU? which im sure it wont :S after spending a lot on it.

I'm fully aware I'm running ATI atm and a bog standard HD monitor, If i run this build i'll be going the Finance route as I dont have a money tree at the bottom of the garden unless someone wants to plant one for me :)

Thanks for reading my wall of text I hope someone can help me

I was origionally using a GTX 285 with 3D vision and it was handling games ok. Obviously I couldn't pump the graphics up to max, but it was still pretty good.

Recently switched to a 480 SOC and it handles most things fine. I agree with testing it out if you can. For some people it takes a long time to get over the headaches you get when you first start using it. My roommate can't even see 3d. For some reason his brain just doesn't put the two images together. Was confirmed when I ran the final step of the "setup 3d vision" thing and he couldn't see the protruding box.

^^ As per my posts in the thread linked to above - from my experience people either find it works for them fine, or they have problems and never get used to it.

Even now having used it on and off (mostly off) for quite awhile I still feel queasy after using it for anything other than a few minutes.

I've used the nintendo 3ds if that's similar to the glasses altho using freehand with the handheld I felt my self go gozzyeyed because of the sweetspot it has. 3d film I have no problems with but I guess its much different to sitting infront of a screen for hours lol sorry for dodgy spelling 0 paragraphs using my phone atm

As far as I'm aware, cinemas do 3D by polarizing the light for each eye in different directions and the glasses simply filter out the unwanted light for each eye. The headaches caused by 3D vision is most likely due to the shutter mechanism in the glasses.

Talking from experience here, try before you buy. People seem to fall into one of three groups very quickly with 3D vision:

1) Love it, best thing ever!

2) Was OK, haven't touched in since the initial buzz wore off and I realised that it actually just gets in the way of playing the game more often than not. I still get it out to show friends though.

3) It's crappy and makes me feel ill.

Personally I was in group 2. When I first got it all set up I was trying every bit of 3d content I could and replaying all my old games looking for ones that worked well. Within a month I was sick of fiddling about with it every time I started a game so packed it away and haven't used it since.

Also, your opening post doesn't make sense. You say you don't want SLI or the power draw of a 480 then you go on to ask about a 590 (which uses more power and SLI).

I find most people - myself included - are in catagory 2, I think only a couple of people out of a dozen or so who have either tried or borrowed my 3D Vision kit had any major problems with it like making them feel ill or effect not working, etc.

Some notes from my experiences (aside from its a bit of a pain setting it up each time for each game):

Call of Duty (various versions) - Effect generally worked great but I felt like it was a barrier between myself and the game a little bit like playing in a straight jacket I felt a bit constricted from playing at my best i.e. couldn't take in and react the whole scene as fast and effectively as normal.

Eve Online - Lots of stuff rendered at the wrong depth, made the game harder to play, even when it was rendering properly varied on how well the depth effect worked.

Batman AA - Effect work fantastically but it felt like I had to put twice as much effort into playing the game as it took normally which felt a chore.

Mafia 2 - Had to disable several advanced rendering effect to get it working properly - didn't really feel the 3D effect made up for the loss of them tho the depth itself worked well - didn't really play it long enough in 3D to get a feel for how well it played gameplay wise in that mode.

GRID - With a bit of playing around with the settings got it working really nice, but never felt quite as "in touch" with my car handling and positional awareness as playing without 3D Vision.

Sorry Geckovich i do tend to rabble on, what I was getting at.
Reading the mass amounts of 480Soc threads i know it has high draw power but I have a good enough PSU to run one but SLI just wouldn't happen.
But for the 590 I've heard people say it uses 650w which wouldn't be safe in any shape or form really so sorry for the confusion.

Back on subject, I don't reli know were i could try this kit out, PC world may have had a stand when it first came out but not now, i'll just look about don't really want to buy kit that will make me throw up.

Thanks for the replys all

I've also debated going for 3d vision but have read experiences of motion sickness which is not good really. So I'll just sit and read for any updates on this tech and see whether its a viable option for me later down the line.

Totally agree with this. I'm in group 2. Purchased it, loved it, played everything in 3D, hunted the internet for 3D porn and movies, the lot. Now the glasses are in my drawer on the other side of the room.

Admittedly I did try Rift in 3D the other day but the drivers don't support it well enough.

It is pretty good but I find when in a LAN that they get in the way of the headphones a bit and I actually perform better in the game with it disabled so I tend to turn it off after a few hours of play.

It is great to show off though :)

I like 3D vision a lot but had to give it a few weeks to really get comfortable.

Enjoyment depends on the game and adjustments such as depth of field and whether to use 100hz, 110hz or 120hz. The latter depends on whether you are playing in the dark, day, or with light bulbs on. Took me a week to get the hang of setting. Wrong hertz can make you feel sick and the world flicker.

At first I did have a slight giddy sensation but was my fault for trying for too high a depth of field. As your eyes get used to 3D you can turn it up. Also noticed that in some games a slightly lower resolution was better. Have recently been playing Crysis 2 in 3D with all the eye candy on, best fun I have had in years, and at full depth of field.

If you buy 3D vision bear in mind that it can take some getting used to and it is not the best option for all games. Your frags take a beating at first but you get back to where you should be eventually. My advice would be to buy if you can afford it, give it some time, and recognise that in some games it will be great (try RUSE for example) and in others it will ordinary.

Best regards,

xD Any good?? :p lol

I actually couldn't notice Rift's 3D well enough. If I am focusing on it I saw it, but moment I stopped focusing on it, it was easy to forget it was there.

im in group 1 :P

470 runs most things for me at sensible settings. Was very happy to find crysis 2 runs like butter in 3d at 1080p :)

I love it, I can play all night (8 hours +) in a completely dark room without any ill effects whatsoever. I'd rather play a game in 3D than suffer the 2D nastiness of TN film panels. The only pain I suffer from is the headphones squeezing the arms of the glasses into my head after an extended period.
