3DMark 06 crashing on startup

I've just built a new PC, AMD 64 X2 6000+, HD2900XT, 2gb RAM, Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe...

And Vista Home Basic, which I'm already starting to regret.

Basically, I've installed the latest drivers from nVidia for the motherboard chipset, and Asus' sound and IDE drivers. I then got ATI's latest graphics drivers, chucked Avast and DirectX 10 on there and thought I'd be ready to go.

Installed 3Dmark 06 to hopefully get a taste of nice graphics and an idea of whether the system was set up properly... and it crashes on startup - the screen where it says it's scanning system components and that your system "may stop responding for a minute or so". After about 10 minutes I gave up and exit the non-responding program.

Anyone experienced this or have any ideas what the problem could be? I've done a google search and checked Futuremark's support site to no avail.

Much appreciated.

Its a known problem with 06 and the 2900, can't remember what you have to do though to get it working.

Its the DLL rename as I said.

Rename Direcpll.dll to anything else (I renamed to Direcpll.dl_), can be found here:

C:\windows\system32\Futuremark\MSC

Thanks, that fixed it. Less worried now :p

I did get a very crap 3Dmark score of 9802, but at least it ran and I can start working out where the problems are.

Seems odd that I couldn't find anything about that when I googled. Maybe I was placing too much emphasis on the OS and not enough on the graphics card.

Thanks very much all of you, anyway :)

It was the lowest online for "people with similar system configurations"

I guess any number of those could be tweaked out, overclocked and perhaps most importantly running XP, though :p
