Hey dudes,

I upgraded a few bits in my pc the other day, namely the motherboard and the graphics card.
The new graphics card is XFX GTX280 1GB and the motherboard is an ASUS ASUS P5Q Pro. On 3dmark06 i used to get 9943 on my BFG GTS 8800OC 320mb with a crappy motherboard I dont know the name of lol.
Now with the new set up i get the same score maybe 3 or 4 points more.

ANyone know why this is? I ran 3dmark vantage and got 11000 odd but my friend with a 8800gt and basically the same setup as me gets 12000 on vantage and about the same on 3dmark06 :S  this seems daft as my card is meant to be better than the 8800.

ANyone got any advice, I did a new OS install when i upgraded the mobo and stripped all drivers n stuff before installing the new gfx card.

Anyone any ideas? I'm stumped.

My rig is as follows
Antec 900
Core2Quad Q6600 2.4Ghz
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7
Corsair XMS6400 800mhz
XFX GTX280 1GB
ASUS P5Q Pro
Corsair 620w psu
320gb sata

3dmark06 and 3dmark vantage are not really the same yopur score will will aways be different.
3dmark06 os older as you know but vantage is for the newer systems of today.
if you really want to compare use the same 3dmark for the each system.

You've tried Vsync and all those sorts of options?

Got a compare link from the Orb?

I scored 13k ish with a E6600 and a 8800GTX so something is up

Try OC your CPU and you'll be surprise what score you get :D

I get between 10000-11000 with vantage.

Also try turn everything off such as internet security, temp programs, anything at all and that will give more score as well :)

Is your friend running sli or something as 12k in vantage seems a lot for an 8800gt?

I get 12.7k in vantage and 16.7k in 06 with a 260gtx so yes something is amiss on your results. As mentioned running a stock Q6600 (apart from being sacrilegious) maybe bottlenecking the card.

Download GPUz and check the card is recognised as being in a X16 (2) or X8(2) socket.

There are some issues with intel chipsets where a GPU is only detected at x1 which hurts performance.

This could also happen if you installed the card in the secondary x16 slot as this defaults to x1 if the primary x16 slot (next to northbrigde) is not occupied.

its your cpu holding you back m8 try overclocking it to 3.2 3.4 you should be able to get that easy with the cpu you have

Ok her's some answers to your questions.

Nope my friend is running q6600 at stock 3gb of 600mhz ram and 8800gt on 3dmark 06 and getting 12425 whilst i'm getting 9943 with q6600 stock 2gb of 800mhz ram and gtx280 1gb.

OK did this the card is running at 16x 2.0 so think thats ok

OK I have no idea how to overclock stuff so if anyone could give me some exact nmbers to put in my BIOS so i don't mess things up (which i will lol) I would really appreciate it and give them a cookie. My CPU idles on desktop at 36-32-33-33 if thats any use to ya. But if it's the CPU why is my friend getting such good marks on it

Any more ideas/help would be great dudes

You running 3dmark at the stock settings? You haven't increased the resolution or added any AA/AF at all have you?

Check that the card is running in performance mode in the nvidia control panel too.

May be worth checking the temperatures on the card too, may be throttling back for some unknown reason...

I only have a dual core E6600 @ 3.5 and I get 15,726.

Hell, even at 1920 x 1080 4xAA 16xAF I get 12,725.

You need to clock that quad.

(although lets face it 06 is pish these days)
