Hi!

I want to build up my own bundle, however i dont know to much about computing and how to match all the parts. The main thing for me is to get high performance computer for 3ds max, autocad, rendering, visualisation, modelling. My budget is £600 but i don't need monitor, keyboard, mouse and windows.

Could you please advice me what would be the best option ?

Thank you.

it may be but thats my budget...at the maximum £650-700....i ve got macbook pro i7 quad core 2.8gh , 8gb but i cant use 3ds max on it...therefore i would like something similar...but the thing is i dont know what kind of componets would be the best for rendering and visualisations

Could always run Windows on Bootcamp to use with 3DS MAX, its what i done for a good couple of years when I had my 2011 iMac.

Unless I'm missing something, the Trinity is going to be a fair bit slower for OP's needs that the cheaper i5 rig.

People just seem to spec Trinity for the sake of it.

Nothing better in your budget for CADs (CPU o-cable to 4.4 GHz or some, with HT and HUGE memory bandwidth which counts here):

Plus additional CUDA graphic cards, like used second-hand GTX 460 1GB (upto 50 quids) if you want better real-time modelling and aftermarket cooler. I couldn't find XFX core 550W, but it would be better option that mentioned.

A ssd is nice in a workstation but by no means necessary. Heavy FEA work hammers the IO, but most of the rest involves reading a bit of data from the drive then doing a lot of maths on it. If anything I'd expect more ram to be of greater value - as a bigger model will then fit in ram.

At £600, I think you should go second hand. The old i7 920's are available for peanuts on the second hard market, and an i7 920 @ 4ghz with 12 or 24gb of ram is solid for everything in the OP. Not as flashy as the latest s2011 kit, and a bit slower than sandy bridge, but actually cheap enough to come in under budget.

Tricky budget but if you get creative you can do well for your cash

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i7-2700K 3.50GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail £221.99
1 x Patriot Viper "Black Mamba" Generation 3 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel kit (PV316G160C9K) £79.99
1 x Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST2000DM001) HDD £73.99
1 x Corsair Builder Series CX 500w Modular '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply (CP-9020059-UK) £54.98
1 x **B Grade** Gigabyte Z68A-D3H-GEN3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 (MB-380-GI) £52.00
1 x Xigmatek Asgard Pro Gaming Case - Black £32.99
1 x Thermalright True Spirit 120 REV A (BW) Performance CPU Cooler (Socket 775 / 1155 / 1156 / AM2 / AM2+ / AM3 / FM1 / FM2) £24.98
1 x OcUK 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £19.99
Total : £575.02 (includes shipping : £11.75).

Mobo is B grade so you might need sata cables. It does however give you sataIII, USB3 and overclocking options for the i7K. 16GB of RAM, nice sized HDD, PSU is modular to make your life easier and improve airflow should you want to OC the CPU.

It's under budget too, so I would get it built and keep a look out for a 2nd hand Nvidia 1GB 460. That will add gaming grunt but also more importantly net you CUDA support which some of your software should be able to exploit.

Hope we've helped more than hindered. I look forward to see what you settle on in the end :)
