Whilst memory is so cheap is it worth buying the OCZ 2Gb (2x1Gb) PC2-6400 on special at the moment to go with the current 2Gb I have? I am running WindowsXP Pro with service pack 2, and as far as I know it will only see 3Gb of it, but I might make the move over to 64 bit Vista after Christmas is out of the way.:)

am I being stupid but can you setup a ramdrive for 2gig out of your 4gig and point the swap file to that? very fast swap file and Windows will recognise it.

I've just done this myself. Getting to the point where when I've been doing a lot of modelling my page file and ram usage is through the rood.
Was at 2.97gb of pagefile usage the other day, 3dsmax wouldn't let me load up any more psd files as images :p

How do I set up the swap drive to use the ram direct until I change over to a 64bit O/S at xmas?

I use 3GB with XP myself, can't say i've noticed any difference but then again I never noticed any difference goign from 2GB to 4GB in vista either.

From what i've read a 32bit OS will only read 3.2GB and can only address 2GB at a time so anymore then 3GB in XP SP2 is a waste of time, correct me im wrong here..

Have any of you used a RAM monitoring utility to check how much is being used when you're running a game or something? I've done that with XP and a PC with 2 GB RAM and the most I've seen it use was about 1.6 GB (Unreal Tournament 3) are there any apps that will use anything like 3 GB? I'm not interested in switching to Vista at the moment but I'm trying to decide if it's worth buying another GB of RAM.
