Is it worth upgrading to 3gb?

I currently have 2x1gb of 5300 ballistix running at 800Mhz 4-4-4-12 on a IP35 Pro board and using Vista 32bit.

Runing crysis and a few apps (steam, msn, etc) if i bring task manager up it says im using 1.8gb memory, so would i benifit by putting an extra 2x512mb 5300 memory in my system?

(seems cheap atm)

3GB is better than 2 but you will loose your Dual channel mode in that config.

Hmm, explain your config now, ie how many Modules and what size are they, and you have 4 Slot on Mobo correct ?

He said he'd be adding 2x512mb modules....so he would still be in dual channel.

At the price it's at now, why don't you just get 2x1GB sticks, identical to what you have now? At least you won't be at home to mr cockup when it comes to clocking, dual channel

I was in kinda the same situation. Had 2gb ( 2 x 1gb ) and wanted to upgrade. Bought the OCZ kit on offer this week (2 x 1gb). So now I have 4 x 1gb with windows seeing 3.5gb of it. My rig is flying
