The Vectra has died a premature death (thankfully), and I've got £4.5k to spend on a a family friendly replacement, there are a few conditions though as her indoors will be driving it most days.

1) She wants a people carrier of some kind
2) Must have some form of warranty

Much as I'd like an S-Max, there's nothing in my price range so currently I'm looking at a Xsara Picasso (1.6i LX or 2.0 HDI) or a Renault Scenic, the former comes with a 12 month warranty from a dealer, haven't looked around for the latter yet.

Anything other vehicles I should be considering? (I'm not overly au-fait with MPV's as I'd prefer a normal saloon/hatchback but I'm not listening to her whine about it for years to come when she'll be driving it most of the time)

Useless input, but If I were to have a people carrier, I wouldn't consider anything other than an S-Max personally, thats about the closest I could come to accepting one :)

Not looking at an 807/Ulysse is wise. Theres nothing wrong with a Zafira that's right with the Citron or the Renault.

How about on of those tall and big 5 seat hatchbacks that came out a while back? A Fusion/Idea/Mariva will be in budget. I'm sure you'll get away with it if you just tell the Mrs it's an MPV.

If I made list of the cars I would least like to own the Xsara Picasso and Renault Scenic would be right at the top of it.

Good Luck.

If I had to any amount of miles in an mpv I'd feel exactly the same, but I don't and I also can't afford to buy one second hand outright without resorting to finance.

The 1.6 Picasso is completely gutless and it'll frustrate you. My other half has an older 2.0 auto Scenic and it goes well and is quite light on petrol. Her folks have got a 2.0 diesel Zafira which is a lot bigger inside but it sounds like a knackered Transit and seems to use just as much fuel. I find the seats more comfortable in the Zafira. They don't have a lot of support in the Renault.

Fusion, no thanks, drove one as a rental, awful car. Fiat Idea? Looks ok(ish), gaudy interior and what seems to be a lack of boot space ruins it though, As for a Mariva, that depends on if it's a crap as most other Vauxhalls, i.e. will it start to rot as soon as it's on my drive?

It won't frustrate me as I'll barely be driving it, it'll suit her down to the ground though, what age was your other halfs scenic?

'96 so it's a series 1. Later ones are bigger and heavier but I think the engines are more powerful.

It has cost us a total of about £150 for a new drive shaft and a set of front pads, but it's pretty much ready for the scrapyard now :D
